Vaccination arrives at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia home in São Brás de Alportel

The first to be vaccinated was Dona Conceição, 108 years old, whose birthdays have been marked by the local authority.

Dona Conceição, 108 years old, was the first and one of 114 people at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia home in São Brás de Alportel, among users and employees, to receive this Tuesday the vaccine against covid-19.

Before arriving at this home, which in October and November was plagued by an outbreak of Covid-19, which ended up causing several deaths, the first dose of the vaccine had already been administered to users and employees of the Casa de Saúde e Reposo de São Brás and to the firefighters of São Brás de Alportel.

«The next steps are awaited, namely the expansion of vaccination to seniors and the São Brasense population, a mission for which the municipality has already made available to the region's health entities all its spaces, logistics and human resources, if they can be useful in this operation, for the health and safety of all», according to the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.

Vítor Guerreiro, Mayor of São Brás, speaks of a "very happy day for our community", in which "the light of hope shines with more intensity".

In a publication on Facebook, the mayor says that Dona Conceição, «with her wonderful 108 years, was the first person in the institution to be vaccinated, as a great example of strength, persistence and a life that inspires us all».

This user of the Misericórdia home is, moreover, famous, bearing in mind that, since 2017, the year in which it celebrated the 105, that Maria da Conceição is treated to a media festival, on the 23rd of December, promoted by the City Council of São Brás.

«I congratulate all the workers and collaborators of this institution, who for 11 months, have given their all to care for and protect all those who are in their care. My acknowledgment to Mr. Ombudsman Júlio Pereira, who is present every day at all hours, with unparalleled dedication and work», says the mayor.

Thanks are also extended «to ARS Algarve, its leaders and all health professionals, who every day test, track and vaccinate our population and who today brought new hope to the 114 people vaccinated at Lar da Santa Casa », as well as the team at the District Center of Faro Social Security, “for the excellent work done in monitoring and supporting institutions in the region”.
