The municipal birth support program, implemented by the Câmara de Lagoa since 2016, has already given almost 500 thousand euros in incentives.
The total of incentives granted under this program already totals 455.702,38 euros and will reach 500 thousand euros very soon. Since its creation until the end of 2020, 406 applications were received by the Municipality, of which 322 were approved.
Of this global amount, more than half were allocated during the years 2019 and 2020, more precisely 154.412,22 euros during the year 2020 and 129.127,71 euros during 2019.
The value of support for each family, at the time of the birth of a child, can currently go up to 2 euros. The conditions for applying for this amount require that the birth registration include a place in the municipality of Lagoa, that the parents have been resident in this municipality for more than two continuous years and registered for at least one year (by reference to the date of the new birth) .
Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa, considers that «this specific incentive is very important to increase the birth rate in the municipality, to settle families and to improve the living conditions of Lagoa families».
"It helps families, in particular young people who are starting their professional lives and building new family nuclei, but it also contributes to boosting local commerce, as the money for this support has to be spent in establishments in the municipality of Lagoa", concludes.
