Portimão “confines” March Young to take him home to Portimão

Program runs throughout the month, with exclusively online activities

March Young returns to Portimão in 2021, after a year of intermission due to the pandemic, in a “confined” version of the event, in which activities will be attended by young people from Portimão, in their homes.

Even with the necessary restrictions, the Portimão Chamber promises «31 intense days, involving the youth of Portimão and local partner entities in a virtual program filled with reasons of interest and numerous proposals, in areas as important as social solidarity, entrepreneurship, prevention, sport, training, culture and health”.

The program includes "numerous daily activities", which start as early as the 1st of March, Monday, with the presentation of the main lines of the event, in the official opening video of the Young March 2021, available from 16:00 of that day on the pages officers of Facebook e Instagram of the Municipality of Portimão.

It is also on the first day of March that the Portimão Museum's digital challenge “A Voz dos Avós” starts. This initiative, which will last the entire month, «intends to reduce the distance between grandparents and grandchildren, rescuing the memories of the elderly».

«The idea is for each participant to create a video on their mobile phone, with a maximum of 3 minutes, that reflects the memories and knowledge shared by the grandparents, whether telling stories from their past, showing old photographs or explaining knowledge, how to plant a flower , crochet, cook golden slices, build tin carts, make orange peel glasses, or other funny things», according to the Portimão Chamber.

The submission of the videos, which will later be published on the Chamber's social networks and YouTube, must be sent to the email [email protected] via Wetransfer. Further clarification can be obtained by calling 282 405 232.

Also from the 1st to the 31st of March, Secondary School students can submit free suggestions to the contest “Civil Protection, Agents and Risks”, in the form of drawing, painting, sculpture, photography or other support.

Young people are invited to express how they see civil protection, and the winning work is announced in April.

On the 3rd of March, the workshop “Atelier de Reciclagem – A bag for our masks” will take place with Cristina Honório, animator of GRATO – Support Group for Drug Addicts, and where you will learn how to make a bag to keep your masks safely , reusing existing raw materials at home. The initiative starts at 11:00 am and can be accessed through this link.

The program continues, on the 5th, with the online session “Ethics and Values ​​in Sport”, aimed at 3rd Cycle and Secondary Education students, with a limit of 300 participants. Interested parties must register via emails [email protected] or [email protected].

The following day, young people from Portimão will have the opportunity to visit the warehouse of the Food Bank against Hunger of the Algarve located in Portimão without leaving their home.

On the 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st of March, always from 15 pm onwards, actions will take place on primary prevention of drug use in schools, under the responsibility of Luís Norte, coordinator of the GRATO direct intervention team and clinical psychologist.

Each day will be allocated to a specific group, with the following calendar: 10th – 12 to 15 years old; 17th – 16 to 25 years old; 24th – professors; 31th – parent associations.

On the 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th and 26th of March, the online workshop “VideoLab – Initiation to Video” will take place, which will provide basic notions in the audiovisual area and «requires minimal knowledge of computers and digital media». Limited to 12 participants, the action is organized by the IPDJ, and registration must be made by email [email protected] or [email protected].

StartUp Portimão is also going to be associated with March Young, which will be available with young entrepreneurs on its Instagram on March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, always at 18 pm.

On the 12th, at 15 pm, a live virtual visit will be promoted to the premises of the Municipality's business incubator, located at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. Applications must be made to the email [email protected].

The music will also take place on the program, in this case on the 13th, with the presentation of the show “Acústico D'Aço”, by Giletes D'Aço, which can be seen from 21 pm on the Chamber's Facebook.

The online workshop “Where I left my glasses”, by Margarida Ferreira, which will focus on what is dementia and Alzheimer's disease, can be followed on the 15th and 22nd of March, at 10:30 am.

On March 17, at 10:00 am, the book “StartIUPI – Making Things” will be presented. The moderation will be in charge of Teresa Preto and the authors of the work, Luís Matos Martins and Fernando Mendes. Registration and requests for more information should be made by email [email protected].

March Young 2021 will also feature online sessions «for all tastes and areas of interest», the first of which on the 16th, on the theme “Dating with Fair Play” (10:30, 11:30, 14:30 and 15:30). The target audience is 3rd Cycle and Secondary students, who must enroll in [email protected] or [email protected].

There will also be online sessions on “The importance of Local Elections and Local Representation” (20th), “Navegas in Security? Online Privacy” (on the 23rd, at 14:30 pm and 16:30 pm) and “Safe Surfing? Cyberbulling and Hate Speech” (March 30th at 14:30 pm and 16:30 pm).

Health will be in focus on the 18th, with the realization of “The health of young people in times of pandemic: food, new technologies and other concerns”, by clinical psychologist Rosário Carmona and nutritionist Inês Sequeira.

Also in the health area, on the 20th, the video “O HIV” will be published, at the initiative of MAPS – Movement in Support of the AIDS Problem, which addresses one of the main social scourges of the last decades of the XNUMXth century.

Another of the planned activities is a food collection campaign (milk, fruit, bread, cereals, coffee, tea, juices, powdered chocolate, biscuits, jams, toast, cakes and nuts, among others) which will take place between the 29th and 31, aimed at making the Take-away Solidarity Snack that will be presented to the beneficiaries of the Association for Family Planning – Projeto Rio.

The place of delivery of food in those days is the Centro DUAL Portimão, located at Rua Jaime Palhinha, Edifício Portimar, between 10:00 and 17:00.

Young people from Portimo will also have the opportunity to participate in the March Young Mypolis Digital Assembly, which takes place from 15:30 on the 29th, «during which proposals submitted until March 25 will be analyzed, under the theme “Activate Youth Portimonense”».

«For this purpose, all student associations are invited to contribute in order to help students build their proposals, which will be available on the TEAMS platform of the Mypolis Portimão community», according to the Chamber.
