Aljezur is no longer considered a municipality at high risk of contagion by Covid-19 and has become one of the two municipalities in Mainland Portugal with the lowest probability of contagion, according to the most recent update of the disease incidence list, by municipality, released today by General Directorate of Health (DGS).

In today's list, which refers to data until the 26th of January, Monchique even appears as the one with the lowest probability of contagion in mainland Portugal. But, as Rui André, mayor of this mountain council, went public this Sunday to clarify, in a publication on the social network Facebook, the existing outbreaks, the biggest of them in the home of Santa Casa da Misericórdia, discovered on thursday, have already made the risk “extremely high”.

This means that there were more than 960 cases per 14 inhabitants in this county in the last XNUMX days.

In concrete numbers, we are talking about just over four dozen cases reported – between the 26th and 31st of January, the Regional Health Authority of the Algarve reported 40 cases in Monchique, to which those of the week will have to be added previous.

But, since this is a municipality with little population, this increase immediately triggers the cumulative incidence (see the photo gallery for how to calculate it).

Furthermore, as Rui André pointed out in the same post, if the risk, on paper, is extremely high, «the actual risk is not that high, since most of these cases are isolated in the SCMM Home».

Even so, said the mayor of Monchique, "the situation should get worse in the coming days", so he appealed "for everyone's commitment so that we can continue to comply with the collection measures and, in this way, help us to lower the numbers'.

Returning to the list that the DGS released today, as usual on Mondays, Aljezur comes up with 197 cases per 100 population and is now considered to be of moderate risk.

Taking into account the general confinement and state of emergency measures, this improvement in status it will not have practical effects for Aljezurenses, just as in Monchique the rules will be the same this week and next week, when the exponential increase in cases is reflected in this list.

Today, according to DGS, Aljezur (197) and, on paper, Monchique, which on the list has “only” 98 cases per 100.000 inhabitants, are the only two municipalities in mainland Portugal with a moderate risk. All others are above the line of 240 cases, being municipalities with high or higher risk level.

And the situation in the Algarve region is worrying, with only one municipality, Vila do Bispo (369/100.000 inhabitants), with high risk, where municipalities with 240 to 479,9 infected/100 inhabitants in 14 days fit. .

The other 13 counties are at the two highest risk levels.

At the very high risk level (480 to 959,9 cases per 741 inhabitants) are the municipalities of Alcoutim (549), Lagoa (869), Lagos (566), Portimão (720), Brás de Alportel (743) and Silves (XNUMX). Of these, only Portimão was not at this level last Monday.

At the extremely high risk level, there are seven municipalities: Albufeira (1315 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants), Castro Marim (2822), Faro (1462), Loulé (1590), Olhão (1085), Tavira (1398) and VRSA (2139). Of these, only Olhão was at a lower level, in the list released a week ago.
