Professional fishing gear seized in the Ria Formosa

Crew member also incurred an "infringement for disrespecting the general duty of home collection

A longline fishing gear, which is not allowed to be used on board recreational boats, was seized this Tuesday night, February 16, in the Ria Formosa. 

This apprehension took place as a result of «an action of inspection and policing, in the housing nuclei of the barrier islands (Armona and Culatra) and the respective lagoon area of ​​the Ria Formosa», says the National Maritime Authority (AMN).

During this action, "a recreational vessel was detected with a crew member on board in full fishing activity using a professional fishing gear called longline, whose use is not allowed on board recreational vessels", he adds.

Moreover, the crew member also incurred an “infringement for disrespecting the general duty of home collection in force in the current state of emergency”.

«As a precautionary measure, the respective notices were filed, and the fishing gear was seized», says AMN.

Four elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Olhão were involved in this action, supported by a vessel.
