Students from ETIC_Algarve raise funds for a film about the fishermen of Culatra

Young people need 500 euros to help cover the costs of making the documentary

A group of students from the Film, Directing and TV course at ETIC_Algarve launched a fundraising campaign to help cover the costs of a documentary they want to make about the fishing community of Ilha da Culatra.

The team of the documentary “Vamos à Vida” is trying to get 500 euros for "boat transport (100 euros), accommodation costs (150 euros) and catering for the shooting days (150 euros)", as well as the necessary licenses to make the film (100 euros).

This budget does not cover all the costs, but it will give the team a good help.

Contributions can be given until the 15th of February, on the crowdfunding platform PPL.

According to Pedro Dias, the director of this documentary, “Vamos à Vida” “transports us to a real vision, without filters, of the life that a fisherman leads, showing all the events that surround him and the influence that nature exerts on him, also highlighting the climate that exists on the island and the difficulties that fishermen experience, highlighting the unique natural elements of the island».

The film “explores one of the first professions of humanity to guarantee man's livelihood and how it is seen today. In the Algarve, more than a profession, it is a lifestyle followed by most residents of Ilha da Culatra who currently suffer political, economic and social influences that influence their livelihood», reads, on the other hand, in the text that accompanies the request for funding.

«By listening to the stories of these men, we enter the magic of the hours spent between the sky and the sea, the adventures and dangers they face every day and share their anguish, their stories of overcoming, companionship and loneliness out to sea» .

The documentary is directed by Pedro Dias and has Sofia Fiore as assistant director and responsible for production. João Carvalho is the photography director and Frederico Cardoso is the image assistant. The team is completed by Raquel Martins (art director/production assistant), Vasco Alexandre (annotator) and Artiom Pyantkovskyy (digital image).
