Albufeira buys 110 computers for secondary school students

Distance learning resumed today

Albufeira purchased 110 laptop computers and 30 routers with internet connection to be delivered to secondary school students who were referred by schools.

The equipment, which cost around 36.500 euros, was handed over to the presidents of the two school groups with secondary education in the municipality.

José Carlos Rolo, president of the Chamber, “made a point of having the equipment delivered before the return of distance learning, which starts this Monday, so that students can resume classes with peace of mind, with the necessary resources and the same opportunities in the access to education», emphasizes the Municipality of Albufeira.

«Distance learning returns this Monday, February 8, after classes were suspended on January 22, following the worsening of the pandemic. In Albufeira, we are prepared to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible, so that families are calmer and young people are better prepared to face this challenge with all the conditions and means necessary for the success of their learning», praises José Carlos Rolo .

The signing of the IT equipment transmission contracts took place at the Paços do Concelho building, with the presence of Sérgia Medeiros, president of the Albufeira Poente Schools Group, which received 45 laptops and 17 routers, and Domingos Mendes, president of the Schools Group Albufeira, which received 65 laptops and 13 routers.

The Municipality of Albufeira emphasizes that «the survey of needs was carried out by the respective groups, which are responsible for distributing the equipment to the referred students».

«The responsibility for the entire process was the groups, and our concern was to acquire the equipment and deliver it in time to the schools, so that they reach the hands of students who need them so that, in this way, they can continue their studies with the necessary means and within the normality possible», stresses José Carlos Rolo, adding that this is another measure of support for families in the context of the pandemic, which also aims to «combat inequalities in access to education».

In March of last year, the City Council of Albufeira had already distributed computer equipment to all school groups in the municipality (694 tablets for Basic Education students and 110 laptops for secondary students), in the total amount of 300 thousand euros.
