Return to the Algarve postponed due to the evolution of the pandemic

The «diligences» have already started for the 47th Volta ao Algarve to run from 5th to 9th May

The Volta ao Algarve, which would take place from the 17th to the 21st of February, has been postponed, revealed the Portuguese Cycling Federation.

In a note published on the official website of the Volta ao Algarve, the organization explained that «today informed all partners and registered teams that the race cannot take place on the scheduled date».

The postponement “is a difficult decision, but one that has become inevitable, given the evolution of the pandemic situation in Portugal”, he adds.

The organization of Volta ao Algarve says that it was "aware that legitimate expectations were created for an excellent sporting spectacle".

However, "the general context of the country imposes a delay that signals the commitment of the Portuguese Cycling Federation with the defense of public health and the motivation to offer supporters a race of great quality, at another time of the year."

Moreover, the «diligences» have already begun for the 47th Volta ao Algarve to run from 5th to 9th May.

This rescheduling depends, even so, “on a consensus with the teams and partners involved in the event, and it also has to be accepted by the International Cycling Union, as it is a test of the UCI calendar”.
