Fans purchased by AMAL do not work and municipalities will ask for money back

Municipalities will activate bank guarantees

AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve will ask for the return of 1,3 million euros invested in 30 fans, acquired for the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA), that don't work, news, this sunday, the Público newspaper.

António Pina, quoted by Público, added that "there is a consensus to demand the money back", taking into account that the fans, purchased in China last year, revealed insurmountable technical problems, which were confirmed by the Common Use Services of the Hospitals (SUCH).

In a first phase, according to the mayor, the suppliers "attempted to solve the problem remotely". Afterwards, the technicians went to the Algarve, but they were not successful either.

According to António Pina, quoted by the same newspaper, “the equipment does not meet all [safety] criteria. Fulfill some, but not all».

Therefore, «it remains to activate the bank guarantees», to revert the money.

Also according to Público, the purchase of these fans is one of the reasons why CHUA, as a member of the consortium, asked, last Monday, at the general assembly meeting, for an audit of the accounts of the Algarve Biomedical Center (ABC), which mediated the purchase of equipment.
