PSD questions the Government on "decade delays" in the administrative and tax courts

One of the courts in question is the Administrative and Tax Court of Loulé

The PSD wants answers to the «decades of delay» in the country's administrative and tax courts, including the one in Loulé.

The PSD Parliamentary Group questioned the Government about the “backlog of cases and the length of sentences in the TAF of Almada, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Loulé, Mirandela, Sintra, Viseu, as well as in the Administrative Court of the Lisbon Circle and in the Tax Court of Lisbon', a situation that is causing 'serious harm' to 'citizens and taxpayers'.

"In the administrative and fiscal jurisdiction, especially in the 1st instance, there are cases awaiting processing for more than 10 and even more than 20 years", say the Social Democrats.

Also "there are cases in which the evidence has already been produced, as well as the final written arguments and the sentence also lingers for decades".

In a question sent to the Minister of Justice, through the Assembly of the Republic, the PSD parliamentarians question whether the Government can ensure that these courts are "equipped with a cadre of judges proportional to the service needs".

The deputies also want to know if the Government can guarantee "that the delays in the processing of the new processes have not been aggravated, in a considerable way".

After all, they argue, "it is public knowledge that the Administrative and Tax Courts in general suffer from a very serious problem of procedural disputes and delays."

Social-democratic deputies consider that "justice with delays of this caliber is anything but justice, seriously harming the rule of law, as well as the prestige and dignity of the state itself."

“This situation has generated delays for decades (yes, for decades!) in the processing and decision of the cases brought. Not only the processes are stopped when they enter the courts in question, as those, few, who advance are waiting for a sentence that is slow to arrive», they reinforce.

The PSD parliamentarians even speak of a "situation is dramatic".

The PSD recalls that it denounced the situation in the debate in the specialty of the last State Budget, in November, but “so far, there has been no improvement, nor is there any news of the application of measures aimed at speeding up the processing of cases in the administrative and fiscal jurisdiction of 1st instance, everything remaining strictly the same as last November».
