The Grand Prix of the Kings takes place this Saturday afternoon, January 9th, at the Athletics Track of Faro, in a special edition, with restrictions imposed by the pandemic.

This competition will be limited to athletes affiliated with the Algarve Athletics Association.

Despite the pandemic situation, «the Municipality of Faro and its partners did not want to miss this event, which is one of the oldest and most emblematic of the athletics calendar at national level, having, however, opted for a more restrained format than usual", reads, in a note from press.

Instead of the route departing and arriving at Jardim Manuel Bívar, in downtown Faro, and the tradition of joining the federated and popular aspects, the organization prepared an exclusive event for federated athletes, which will have, in addition to the sporting aspect, an increased concern with the condition of athletes in competition.

In this sense, the competition will be guided by scrupulous compliance with the rules for using the Athletics Track of Faro, which will not be open to the public, as well as the Contingency Plan for events of the Algarve Athletics Association, previously approved by the health authorities.

The course, made only on the track, will have different distances for the various levels in the male and female aspects: the Benjamins A will complete 400 meters (one lap to the track), the Benjamins B 800 meters (two laps), the children's 1.200 meters ( three laps), the starters 1.600 (four laps) while the juveniles will run 2.000 meters (five laps).

Juniors, seniors and veterans will complete the distance of 10 meters in a relay race format - divided into male, female or mixed teams of four elements (2500 meters per athlete) or duo teams (of two elements, regardless of gender , with 5.000 meters per athlete).
