Ten users and five employees of the Elderly Home of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Armação de Pêra are infected with Covid-19, according to the Sul Informação from an official source.
Another source, this one from Social Security, revealed to our newspaper that today, at the end of the afternoon, a brigade of the Portuguese Red Cross was activated to provide support to home users who remain there and to replace employees who are sick or in isolation.
This outbreak comes after the detection of 5 positive cases at the EB 2,3 School of Armação de Pêra, following a massive testing action, which took place in the school's pavilion, last Saturday.
After a teacher tested positive for Covid-19, students from nine classes at the school and also from a pre-school class were invited to take tests, in a total of 247 samples.
Of these, in addition to the five positive cases, there were two inconclusive tests, which had to be repeated.
Despite these five confirmed cases, ARS source explained to Sul Informação that you cannot say that you are in the presence of an outbreak at school.
As in this situation in Armação de Pêra, cases have been recorded in schools throughout the Algarve, with infections of students, teachers or staff, which lead to the isolation of classes, but which do not constitute outbreaks.
In the neighboring municipality of Portimão, for example, our newspaper knows that, this Monday, there were 20 infected students and so many other classes in isolation.
The municipality of Silves, on the other hand, after a few weeks with low numbers of new infections, registered, between last Friday and today, Tuesday, 81 new cases of Covid-19.
It was also in Silves that two of the deaths registered in recent days in the Algarve took place: a 70-year-old man (on Thursday) and an 81-year-old woman yesterday.
