The Independent Union of Physicians (SIM) lamented that "just today" the Ministry of Health has ordered a list of priority "alternates" for vaccination against Covid-19 to prevent the misuse of vaccines.

The Ministry of Health today considered any misuse of vaccines “unacceptable”, warning that this act could be “criminally punishable”, and asked the Task Force to prepare a list of other priority people to whom it could be administered if the person initially defined cannot take it, a situation that must be properly reported.

"Our surprise is only now, more than six months after it was known that a vaccination plan was going to be carried out, that the Ministry of Health has forced a basic thing to be put on the ground," the secretary-general told Lusa. general of SIM, Jorge Roque da Cunha.

For the union leader, this situation is “very simple” to resolve: “If, for example, 30 vaccines are available in an institution, what you have to do is create a substitute bag for that batch of vaccines”.

This is because there may be an unforeseen event and the person who was about to be vaccinated cannot and is called an alternate and the other person will be vaccinated at another time, explained Roque da Cunha, stressing that "there will be no waste of vaccines".

"But it is better late than never and once again we call for planning, working and avoiding political propaganda in relation to vaccines", he defended.

Jorge Roque da Cunha also called on the Ministry of Health to publish the number of vaccines by locations and the forecast, albeit approximate, of when the priority vaccination of health professionals in hospitals and health centers will be completed.

For Roque da Cunha, “it is essential that, in a process where there is a lack of vaccines, where pharmaceutical companies are lagging behind the deadlines they have committed to, where there is great pressure to vaccinate as soon as possible to stop the pandemic, there is clarity, transparency and seriousness ”.

For this reason, he called on the Ministry of Health to publish the number of vaccines by locations and the forecast, albeit approximate, of when the priority vaccination of health professionals in hospitals and health centers will be completed.

"Only in this way will we be able to demonstrate that just over a third of health professionals" made the first dose of the vaccine in large hospitals and health centers and that at Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Lisbon, Cruz Vermelha and SAMS there is still no date set for vaccination, as well as in private practices.

The Ministry of Health determined today that “the 'Task-Force' reinforces instructions so that the entities responsible for the operationalization of the plan prepare, in advance, a list of other priority persons to whom they will be able to administer the vaccines, in case of supervening impossibility of any initially defined persons, and this circumstance must also be duly reported ”.

The statement from the Ministry of Health comes after situations of people who would not be among the priority groups of the first phase of vaccination have been known.
