“Tourist and Cultural Attractions in the Algarve. What future?” is the theme of the second edition of the webinar What's Next, scheduled for December 14th (Monday), at 18:00, via zoom.

Cristina Veiga-Pires, executive director of Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, Isabel Delgado, director of Human Resources & Marketing at Zoomarine, Isabel Soares, head of the Museums, Heritage and Historical Archives of the Municipality of Portimão, Miguel Gião, businessman, Padre Miguel Neto, parish priest of Tavira and Paulo Pires, cultural programmer in the Municipality of Loulé, are the guests for this webinar.

Are there enough tourist and cultural attractions in the Algarve? Which attractions do you consider to be the main attractions for the Algarve Tourist Destination? How are current attractions being affected by the Pandemic? Perspectives, innovation and trends? These are the topics to be addressed.

The event results from the joint organization of the Management of the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism (ESGHT) with the courses in Hotel Management and Tourism of the University of Algarve, with the support of CinTurs – Research Center for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being .

Biographical notes from guest speakers:

 

Cristina Veiga-Pires – Executive Director of the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve

Born in France, she has a degree in Geology from the Université Paris-XI Orsay, France, and a PhD in Environmental Methodologies, specializing in Isotopic Geochemistry, from the Université du Québec in Montreal, Canada.

She has been a Permanently Appointed Assistant Professor since 2005, teaching at the Department of Earth, Sea and Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Algarve.

She was Deputy Director of the Faculty of Science and Technology from 2009 to 2012 and President of the Pedagogical Council of the Faculty of Marine and Environmental Sciences in 2002-2003.

In December 2014, she assumed the position of Executive Director of the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, in Faro, where he has developed with his team, temporary exhibitions and several projects in the field of informal and non-formal education and participatory science.

She is a researcher at the Center for Research on the Sea and the Environment – ​​CIMA/UAlg with several works published in specialized journals, in congress proceedings and in book chapters.

He has supervised master's and doctoral theses, and coordinated and participated in research projects in the areas of paleoceanography and paleoclimatology, sedimentology, submarine discharges of groundwater and karst systems.

She was coordinator of the CIMA/UAlg team of researchers who participated in the project for the elaboration of AMAL's Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change, and is currently Scientific Director of the Aspiring Geoparque Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira.

 

Isabel Delgado – Director of Human Resources & Marketing at Zoomarine

He completed higher studies in Labor Law at Universidade Lusíada, a degree in Human Resources Management and Labor Psychology at ISLA-Lisboa and a second degree in Human Resources Management at Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

He began his professional career in Lisbon, where he worked at companies in the financial, transport, distribution and consumption areas such as Locapor, the Siemens AG Group, Brisa and the Gillette Portugal Group, always performing functions related to the financial and human resources areas.

Since 1997, she has been HR director at Zoomarine, a role she has accumulated with Marketing and Information Technology since 2013.

 

Isabel Cristina Soares – Head of the Museums, Heritage and Historical Archives Division of the Municipality of Portimão

Superior Archeology Technician at the Portimão Museum from 1999 to April 2015.

Head of the Museums, Heritage and Historical Archives Division of the Municipality of Portimão, since May 2015.

Degree in History, Variant of Archeology from the University of Coimbra.

Specialization in Museology from the University of Évora.

Master in Museology, by the University of Évora, with the master's thesis: The Algarve Museum Network: Functioning and Potential.

Articles published in the area of ​​archeology and museology in newspapers, magazines, specialized publications, he coordinated the section Espaço ao Heritage – Cultura Sul, newspaper Postal do Algarve.

Communications given in the field of museology and archeology, namely: presentation of the results of archaeological work, experimental archeology, museological inventory, educational service, accessibility in museums, museology and the community, regional museum networks, particularly the Network of Museums of the Algarve.

 

Miguel Gião – Entrepreneur

A 39-year-old restaurant and bar entrepreneur, he was born in Faro, married, with 3 children.

With several businesses in the area of ​​bars and restaurants (bar columbus , Aperitif Bar, oyster slimeAdam Bar, Eva Senses and EVA roof top), in his work he coordinates a team of 42 workers.

He is a trainer at the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School and has affiliations with associations such as “OCAB” for the development and culture of the Algarve region.

It works with large Hotel Units and also has a support and consulting company in this area, the eqepec.pt.

In his book days, he dedicated himself to sports, reading and business and leisure trips, I like to enjoy a good wine in the presence of friends.

 

Father Miguel Neto – Pastor of Tavira

Miguel Mário Lopes Neto was born on December 25, 1978, in Quelfes, Olhão.

In 2006, he completed the Theology Course at the Catholic University of Portugal, Lisbon, having defended the thesis The Easter According to Santo António.

Between 2006 and 2007, he was an advisor to D. Basilio de Nascimento, Bishop of the Diocese of Baucau, on matters related to the Press and Social Communication. In East Timor, he was also a Portuguese teacher under Missionary Volunteerism at the Catholic School of Manatuto.

Returning to Portugal, he was ordained on 7 December 2008, taking up the position of Director of the Information Office of the Diocese of Algarve (GIDAlg), a position he has held to date.

He has been, since 2011, and, by appointment of D. Manuel Neto Quintas, Bishop of the Algarve, responsible for the Pastoral Diocesana do Turismo team, and, since 2012, he has been a member of the National Work of Pastoral do Turismo (ONPT), occupying the position of Treasurer.

In 2015, and at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, he defended the thesis “The Church in Networked Society – Theological perspectives from the study of Manuel Castells”, obtaining the 2nd canonical degree of the Doctoral Course in Theology, with a specialty in Practical Theology .

He is currently the parish priest of Tavira and responsible/founder of the company ART Gilão TAVIRA.

Communication has always been part of his life as a priest, assuming from a very young age a strong connection to the digital world and the media, having been the author of blogs, radio programs and, recently, a sports commentary on Sport TV.

 

Paulo Pires – Cultural Programmer in the Municipality of Loulé

His training covers the areas of Modern Languages ​​and Literatures, Mediation, Music, Sociology and Education and Art.

Linked to cultural, artistic and creative areas and teaching, he has worked for the last 15 years in the fields of Intangible Cultural Heritage, Libraries and Archives, and Performing Arts.

He collaborated with the most recognized figures in the national arts and letters in multiple actions and cultural projects.

He writes regularly for Público/Ípsilon on Culture and Arts and is the author of several works, the last being Escrytos – chronicles and essays on contemporary culture (2013-2017), edited by João Paulo Cotrim.

He is a member of the Technical-Scientific Council of the School of Education and Communication of the University of Algarve.

He likes photography, gastronomy, nature, documentary cinema and neuroscience.
