The first 1100 are already being vaccinated and the remaining health professionals in the Algarve should be inoculated with the vaccine against Covid-19 next week, already «from Monday, the 4th, if everything goes according to plan», revealed to Sul Informação Paulo Morgado, President of the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve.

A nurse and two doctors from the health centers in the Algarve, as well as two operational assistants from hospitals, were the first to be vaccinated against Covid-19, this Tuesday, and kicked off a first stage of vaccination, which will reach 900 employees of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve – 600 in Faro and 300 in Portimão – and 200 workers from the three Health Center Groups in the region.

“Next week, more vaccines arrive and the process will continue as normal. We are going to finish vaccinating health professionals and then continue with elderly homes», said Paulo Morgado.

«In principle, more vaccines will arrive on the 4th, of the 79 that Portugal will receive. But it is always difficult to be absolutely certain, as issues may arise that lead to delays,” he added.

Still, the idea is to complete the vaccination of health professionals and "start in homes, as early as next week."

As far as hospital and Primary Health Care workers are concerned, the universe of people to be vaccinated will be around 3 – 2 at CHUA and around XNUMX at ARS.

1100 of these have already received or will receive this vaccine until this Thursday, the 31st.

In all, there are five vaccination sites, in hospitals in Faro and Portimão and in the Health Centers of Tavira, Loulé and Portimão.

In hospitals, the first two employees to be vaccinated were the operational assistants. Maria Clara Nogueira (Faro) is Vitalina Vieira (Portimão).

At the same time, members of the teams that make up the Dedicated Areas for Respiratory Patients and Covid-19 (ADR) and the collection points of the three Health Center Groups (ACeS Barlavento, ACeS Central and ACeS Sotavento) and the Regional Health Laboratory were vaccinated Public of the Algarve Dr. Laura Ayres.

At ACeS Sotavento, the first to be vaccinated was Dr. Henrique Santos, president of the Clinical Council of this group.

Henrique Santos «has been at the forefront of all ACeS commitments in assisting infected users, both in the ADC, in the Tavira Population Support Zone (ZAP), in the Tavira Barracks (assistance to migrants), or in the current Sotavento ADR-C».

After being vaccinated, he stressed that he decided to take this vaccine "in an attitude of thinking about the protection of people and feeling that this will be the first step towards the beginning of the end of the pandemic".

At ACeS Central, nurse Inês Bica, from the Gentes de Loulé Community Care Unit, who is part of the ACeS home collection team, was the first to be immunized.

“After this difficult period full of adversity, this vaccine is the impetus we needed to continue to carry out our work on the front line with the hope that we will return to normality soon. The vaccine, although optional, must be taken into account for a better tomorrow», highlighted this health professional.

At ACeS Barlavento, the first to be vaccinated was Dr. Victor Sobral, from the Personalized Health Care Unit in Silves.

For this clinician, “the vaccine is a very important element to prevent infectious diseases. In this case, it prevents us from being infected by giving us more defenses. As a health professional, I am moved to have been the first».

The statements of the three health professionals are in line with the perception of Paulo Morgado, who told the Sul Informação that the first day of vaccination, in the Algarve, «went very well».

“The membership has been excellent. We didn't have any problems due to the vaccination, people were very calm», he described.

Under the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19, «in this first phase, all health professionals who express an interest will have access to the vaccine, through a continuous and sequential process, according to the priorities defined by the DGS and the respective deliveries of vaccines to the country», concluded the ARS do Algarve.
