The Mass of the Rooster (00:00 on the 24th) and the Mass on Christmas Day (11:00, the 25th) will be celebrated at the Pavilhão Desportivo de Albufeira, as part of the parish and local authorities to create «all the conditions for this space can welcome the faithful in complete safety”.
«The size of the sports venue and even the experience accumulated in other events will allow the reception of a greater number of people, in line with the rules stipulated by the DGS», says the City Council of Albufeira.
Father Flávio, parish priest of Albufeira, recalls that "this year, we could not not celebrate this very important date in the Christian calendar, because at Christmas comes hope, the proximity of our God: the certainty that we are not alone."
The pastor says that "this is an opportunity to bring together our entire parish community, in a year of so many distances and so many absences: we chose the place because it is large, in order to guarantee the participation of all who wish."
All safety standards are guaranteed for the celebration of the Eucharist: there will be a team composed of brothers from the community, to welcome the faithful and lead them to their respective places, the use of a mask will be mandatory throughout the celebration and the places will be distanced required by safety standards. The Parish Community will follow the rules of the DGS and will act in accordance with the Civil Protection of our Municipality.
For José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, «the municipality could not remain indifferent to this very particular situation».
“Since we were contacted by the parish, we have been trying to find a solution, knowing the difficulties involved in an operation of this kind due to the great logistical and human mobilization”, he adds.
The mayor stresses, therefore, "the availability of collaborators and partners of the municipality to implement this important moment which, being different, will certainly be one of hope and communion."
Therefore, the Catholic Christian Community of Albufeira will celebrate the traditional Mass of the Rooster at 24:00 am and the Christmas Day Mass at 11:00 am in a different space, but in total safety.
