The redevelopment of the headquarters of group 166 of the Portuguese Scout Association (Montenegro), the Mato Cadete Leisure Park, in Bordeira, the Escola do Ser (Santa Bárbara de Nexe) and the creation of the Interpretative Center of the Poet Emiliano da Costa (Estoi ). These are four of the six winning projects in the first edition of the Participatory Budget (OP) of Faro, whose results were released this Tuesday, December 22nd.
The symbolic ceremony took place at the Municipal Museum. A total of 4089 people voted for the six projects that will be carried out in 2021, at an investment of 177.131,39 euros.
The redevelopment of the headquarters of group 166 of the Portuguese Scout Association (Montenegro), the Futebol Lab (Montenegro), the Mato Cadete – Bordeira Leisure Park (Santa Bárbara de Nexe), the School of Being (Santa Bárbara de Nexe), the redevelopment of the São Pedro Futsal multi-sport in the garden of Alameda João de Deus (União de Freguesias de Faro) and the Interpretative Center of Poet Emiliano da Costa (Estoi) were the winning projects, which will be executed in 2021.
The requalification of the headquarters of Grupo 166 – Montenegro of the Portuguese Scout Association, presented by Anabela Argel, was the most voted project, with 793 votes, and will receive a value of 30 thousand euros.
The Futebol Lab project, a sports equipment aimed at young footballers located in the parish of Montenegro, proposed by Rui Guerreiro, had the second most voted candidacy, with 532 votes. It will receive support of 29.744,97 euros from the Municipality.
With 526 votes, the third most voted project was the Parque de Lazer Mato Cadete, in Bordeira. This was the idea of Eva Mendonça, president of Sociedade Recreativa Bordeirense, which consists of a playground and an outdoor gym and will have a budget of 29.986,42 euros.
Escola do Ser, a project by Sandra Matinhos that provides for the rehabilitation of an abandoned school in Goldra de Cima to create a support center for cancer patients, was the fourth most voted candidacy, with 391 votes, and will receive support of 30 euros .
The candidacy submitted by Cláudia Castanheiro with the project for the rehabilitation of the São Pedro Futsal multisports, located in Jardim da Alameda, received 360 votes, and will be entitled to a budget of 27.400 euros.
The project for the creation of the Poeta Emiliano da Costa Museum/Interpretation Center in Estoi, presented by José de Paula Brito, was also designated the winner in order to comply with the OP regulations, which provided for at least one winning project for each parish in the municipality. You will receive support of 30 euros.
In all, more than 4.640 votes were registered by the 4.089 voters (who could vote for a maximum of two projects) and the Municipality allocated a value of 177.131,39 euros to the OP, compared to the 145 thousand initially foreseen.
According to Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber, «participation in this first edition of the OP was very positive, either due to the number of candidacies, or the number of voters and votes, which means that people got involved and the projects that won had a lot voting'.
"These projects allow people to think about what the territory and its institutions should be, and people's appropriation of projects is very important, even for their continued use," added Rogério Bacalhau.
The mayor assured that the objective of the PB was entirely achieved, even because it was held in an atypical year, which did not allow for the face-to-face meetings that were initially scheduled for the various parishes.
In this ceremony, in which symbolic checks were delivered to the project winners, Rogério Bacalhau expressed the wish that the second edition of the OP, in 2021, will be held without this type of constraint and with even more participants, more projects and more voters .
The mayor also revealed that some unelected projects will be analyzed and may even be implemented directly by the municipality.
