Lagos was distinguished as the “Municipality More Blue” 2020, under the Blue Flag Programme, the municipality of Lagos was distinguished as “Municipality More Blue”. The award is the result of recognition for “excellent performance” in environmental education activities, carried out under the Blue Flag 2020 Programme.
As explained by the Câmara de Lagos, «this prize is awarded to the municipality in each region that obtains the best score in environmental education activities, with the assessment being carried out by the Portuguese Environment Agency and by the National Coordination of the Blue Flag Program».
The municipality of Lacobrigense submitted an application to the Blue Flag Program with a total of 13 environmental education activities, five of which initially planned were reformulated due to the context of the pandemic.
Carrying out at least six environmental education activities is one of the imperative criteria of the Blue Flag Program.
«Even with all the changes to which they were subject, it was possible to carry out the activities complying with the mandatory types of the program: information and environmental awareness; passive participation; active participation and multiplier effect», emphasizes the municipality.
For the Municipality, «this distinction is the recognition of the effort carried out by the municipality in favor of environmental protection, with a growing concern to involve the entire community».
The Câmara de Lagos also recalls that, «in recent months, several environmental campaigns have been developed, such as the Digital Photography Contest, launched during the bathing season, with the theme proposed by the Blue Flag: “Back to the Sea with Attitude to Change ” and which registered the highest participation, with 50 competitors from various parts of the country and from different countries, in a total of 107 photos in the competition and also the awareness and environmental education campaigns “Zero Beatas” or “Lagos na Onda do Verão” ».
As part of the commemorations of World Environment Day, a didactic application for the youngest, the game “Super Ique in the Defense of the Environment” was launched.
Praia da Dona Ana was also distinguished with the certificate of international coordination for its 15 consecutive years with the Blue Flag.
