“Estojo” shows young talent for theater in Faro

There are still tickets for sale

"If you had the chance to speak for two minutes on a live broadcast where the whole world was listening to you, what would you say?" This question is the motto of the educational project “Estojo”, by LAMA, which challenged three theater groups for young people to work in a professional way. The result will go on stage this Friday, December 4th, Saturday and Sunday, the 5th and 6th, in Faro.

Ao Sul Informação, João de Brito, artistic director of LAMA – Algarve Arts and Media Laboratory, explained that there will be «three shows by three different groups of young people from the city of Faro»: the Paná Paná, Improviso Intervention Theater and Readers Group.

All will take the stage of LAMA Black Box, headquarters of this company in Faro, on Friday at 20:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday, at 10:30 am and 16 pm, “in a kind of theatrical marathon”. «The shows are all followed by – there is only a mini break between performances», framed João de Brito.

And how did the idea of creating the “Estojo” come about?

“At LAMA we have been working for some years with this side of the educational service and training of new audiences. Now, we had the idea of creating a project that would involve other theater groups that already existed – some started in a school context, but suddenly they are autonomous», said João de Brito.

Basically, the objective is to give these groups the opportunity to «work in a professional way, in which they have a budget for scenography, costumes and props».

The main question posed to the three groups was the same: if you had the possibility to speak for two minutes in a live broadcast, where the whole world was listening to you, what would you say?

These were joined by others such as “what would you take if you were forced to emigrate? And if you had to emigrate, where would you go?”. Although the questions are common to the three shows, what can be expected are, of course, different answers.

«They later created, autonomously, their shows. I go, from time to time, giving directions, but it's all their work. The idea is to give stage experience to these young people so that they can experience the process of artistic work», said João de Brito.

For the actor and artistic director of LAMA, the issue “of creating audiences is easy to talk about, but I believe that it is through influence that this happens. I notice that the parents are enthusiastic, the siblings, the friends too and this is a snowball».

The very name of the project – “Estojo” – has an underlying meaning: “it is the place where young people keep belongings that are so important to their lives”, commented João de Brito.

So far, the feedback from the work, which started about three months ago, “is being very positive” and the truth is that there are still tickets for sale to attend the sessions on Saturday morning and for the two sessions on Sunday.

Tickets cost 5 euros and reservations can be made to [email protected]. The show complies with all the rules of the Directorate-General of Health for prevention to Covid-19.

`SPEAKING PLACES´

Through silences, dreams are built that need to conquer places of speech. But not everyone has access to these places, because they were born without the right to have a voice, without the right to have dreams, without the right to have rights. It is urgent to break the tyranny of those who want to silence, oppress and humiliate us. It is urgent to say “No” and resist projecting our voice with the force of an airplane launch.
