Albufeira Archeology Museum is one of 11 museums worldwide to receive the «Come-In» seal

Project is intended to boost transnational cooperation for accessibility and inclusion, aiming to offer a museological experience for all

Albufeira Municipal Museum of Archeology is one of the 11 museums around the world that have just received the «Come-In Label» for their efforts to make their structures and exhibitions more accessible to everyone.

O «Come-In» seal was awarded to 11 museums from Austria, Bangladesh, Croatia, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Northern Macedonia and Slovenia. In Portugal, in addition to the Albufeires Archeology Museum, the Battle of Vimeiro Interpretation Center received this seal of accessibility.

The selected museums officially become part of the «Come-In» network, alongside the 7 museums that are partners in Come-In, a project designed to boost transnational cooperation for accessibility and inclusion, with a view to offering a museological experience for everyone.

The Municipal Museum of Archeology of Albufeira, 21 years after opening its doors, this year invested 350 thousand euros to create the «most inclusive» museum in the Algarve, such as o Sul Informação reported in a report, last July.

The investment was intended to «provide the space and surrounding area with all the means necessary to create an accessible route for all audiences, with interpretation and enjoyment in equal circumstances, regardless of their physical, cognitive, social or cultural aptitudes». It was this investment that earned the Museum of Albufeira the attribution of the «Come-In» seal, which attests to the accessibility of the structure.

The seal was developed as part of the «Come-In!» project that aimed to improve the capacities of museological agents and enhance cultural heritage by making it accessible to all.

It also aims to be a global label for museums committed to accessibility, promoting democracy, non-discrimination, equal opportunities and accessible culture. It promotes new ways of thinking and accessing culture through multi-sensory experiences and innovative approaches.

Museums of all types and from all over the world can apply for this seal. The second round of applications (call) will be launched in early 2021.

This 'Come-In' seal is promoted by the Central Europe Initiative (CIS), an organization founded in Budapest on 11 November 1989. It is a regional intergovernmental forum committed to supporting European integration and sustainable development through cooperation between its Member States and also with the European Union, international and regional organisations, as with other public or private institutions and non-governmental organisations.
