Loulé: Som Riscado returns with a lot of creativity and without forgetting safety

On "day zero" there will be a talk at Café Calcinha

Joana Gama and Luís Fernandes

The Som Riscado Festival, in Loulé, will return, on the 19th of November, «in strength». «One of the most unique and irreverent festivals in the south of the Tagus» lasts until the 22nd, with varied proposals that include shows, installations, trainings and debates.

In an initiative of the Municipality of Loulé through the Cineteatro Louletano, Som Riscado «is once again committed to bold and innovative programming, based on experimental dialogues between music and image and on new explorations in terms of sound art», highlights the Municipality of Loulé.

In view of the pandemic, the Festival planned to reinforce hygiene and safety measures, transposing to all events the sanitary norms that have guaranteed to Cineteatro Louletano the maintenance of the “Safe&Clean” seal.

This year, names of reference in the field of experimental music are confirmed, such as Surma, on the 21st, at 20:30 pm (the presentation, in a national preview, of some themes from the new album and a new formation on stage is expected), alongside Joana Gama, Luís Fernandes and Drumming GP, on the 22nd, at 18 pm (these three accompanied by the Berlin-based visual artist Pedro Maia, in a show of great impact in its premiere in the South). Also joining this program is the contagious duo Frankie Chavez & Peixe with the project “Miramar”, on the 00th, at 20 pm, considered by Blitz magazine as the third best national album of 19.

The Festival brings other surprises, like some world references. This is the case of Victor Gama (on the 19th, at 19:30 pm, opening the event's program), he has worked all over the world and is internationally recognized in the field of sound research and experimentation.

The proposal is called “Sail 6911” and addresses nuclear and ecological themes.

«Som Riscado will thus provide an unprecedented meeting between Victor Gama, accompanied by harpist Salomé Pais Matos, and an ensemble of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul directed by Maestro Rui Pinheiro in a multimedia show that has already been presented in some of the main halls worldwide», highlights the Loulé autarchy.

Multidisciplinary performances integrated in interactive installations are also planned, aimed at the school community, the general public and families, with Soncopia (Porto) at the Cineteatro and the Companhia de Música Teatral at the Convento de Santo António.

The commission component «is again central», with the participation of various artists and educational structures based in the Algarve: cases of the duo Camille Leon [Joana Gomes' artistic name] and Inês Barracha who will work with Surma; and students from the Animated Image course at the School of Education and Communication (ESEC) of the University of Algarve, who will collaborate with four Algarve bands, namely 2143, Heroin Holiday Big Band, Kilavra and Mateus Verde, in a curatorship of the Iberian Caribbean/Miguel Neto, in presentations to take place at 16 pm on the 00st and 21nd, at the Solar Auditorium, with free admission.

On the 21st, at 19:00 pm, space for Boris Chimp 504 with “Vanishing Quasars”, in a live multimedia performance, as well as the premiere of “Lugar None”, a new album by Grafonola Voadora & Napoleão Mira, on the 20th, at 20:30 pm, a work that was supported by the Municipality of Loulé. Both shows take place at the Cineteatro Louletano.

A talk is also scheduled, on day zero of the festival, on the 18th, at 18:30 pm, at Gato Maltês (Café Calcinha) moderated by the critic Rui Miguel Abreu (Rimas and Beats), which brings together several artists participating in this year's edition and which serves above all as an appetizer for all the performative programming that follows.

Tickets for paid concerts (there are several free ones) are on sale at the receptions of the Cineteatro and Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, participating locations (Fnac, Worten, CTT and others) and online at www.bol.pt.

The Som Riscado Festival has the University of Algarve (ESEC, FCHS and CIAC), Loulé Secondary School, Quarteira Secondary School, ETICAlgarve, Loulé Criativo and Gato Maltês/Café Calcinha as institutional partners. RTP1, Antena 1, Antena 3, Rimas e Batidas, RUA FM, Algarve Informativo and Barlavento are the media partners.
