Carmona Rodrigues will help Loulé make Salir's water and sewage network more efficient

Câmara intends to adapt one of the oldest water networks in the municipality to modern requirements

Loulé Council will continue to invest in works to improve water efficiency and expand the water and sewage supply network in the parish of Salir, and will count on the help of specialist António Carmona Rodrigues.

The consultant and academic in the area of ​​water resources, visited Salir «for an assessment and possible collaboration in the creation of solutions for the water supply network in this location», according to the City Council of Loulé, which is committed to improving the water supply and sewers in this parish

In October, the Chamber Meeting approved “the launch of the public tender for the expansion of the water and sewage networks in Rua José Domingos Fonseca, an investment of close to 550 thousand euros, to strengthen the water for human consumption and water infrastructure. existing waste water in the parish of Salir'.

"The works that will move forward, very soon, to the rehabilitation of the water distribution pipeline and sewage drainage, in the parish's sports complex, are also awarded, an investment of around 140 thousand euros", according to the City Council of Loulé.

These interventions join others that have been carried out since 2019, namely the registration of the network, "with an exhaustive survey of the type of existing pipes, their diameter and age" and the installation of "flow and pressure monitoring systems to the along the net”

These actions could be a key part of the work to be developed with António Carmona Rodrigues, a civil engineer with a PhD in Environmental Engineering, who is also a professor in the area of ​​Hydraulics and Water Resources Management.

"Since this is one of the oldest water networks in this territory and where there is one of the highest failure rates, we intend to create a response that makes this infrastructure more sustainable in terms of water efficiency, in order to solve some problems in supplying the populations. The objective is to adapt a network dating back to 1982 to the current needs and to the growth of the population and the evolution of water consumption habits», explained the City Council of Loulé.

«The Municipality has been carrying out important work in the area of ​​water efficiency and in the expansion of the water and sewage supply network throughout the municipality. Engineer Carmona Rodrigues has vast experience in this matter and it was in this sense that we contacted him so that, at first, he could visit the parish of Salir and thus carry out an on-site assessment of the situation in this locality», explained Vítor Aleixo, president of the Chamber of Loulé.
