BE calls urgently for the regularization of precarious workers at IPMA in Algarve

The Bloc delegation dedicated last Thursday to Higher Education and precariousness in research careers

The Left Bloc demanded an "urgent" solution for the precarious workers of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere who work in this institution's various facilities in the Algarve and who have been waiting for more than a year and a half for the regularization of their situation under the PREVPAP .

According to BE , some of these workers "are working for free, no longer with a grant or a fixed-term contract", despite the request they made to join the staff of IPMA having "obtained a positive opinion and approval by the Government" .

"It is urgent to guarantee what they are entitled to: an entry into their career," defended the Left Bloc, which assures that "it will ask the Government a question on the matter."

Last Thursday, the 12th, a delegation from the Left Bloc made up of João Vasconcelos, Blocist deputy elected by the Algarve, also parliamentarian Luís Monteiro and José Moreira, leader of the council of BE/Faro, met not only with IPMA workers, but also with the dean of the University of Algarve (UAlg) and researchers from the institution.

The meeting held by the Blocists with the head of UAlg served to «highlight the importance of the work developed by the institution in the region, to understand what new instruments are being used to adapt reality to Covid-19 and how the University sees the current financing of the system and social action».

"Deputy Luís Monteiro presented the measures of the Bloc for Higher Education, while deputy João Vasconcelos presented the Social and Economic Emergency Plan for the Algarve, which includes some measures aimed at the University of Algarve", revealed the BE.

Also at UAlg, the BE delegation spoke with precarious UAlg researchers who, at first, saw their applications for entry to UAlg staff approved, but whose processes were "failed in a review" of the applications, in a second phase.
