Algarve Walking Season is back with festivals in Barão de S. João and Ameixial

The Algarve Walking Season, a project for the joint promotion of walking festivals, is back with the Baron de São João Walk & Art Fest which starts this Friday, November 6th, and the Walking Festival Ameixial, already on December 5th and 6th.

“With the emergence of Covid-19, the demand for safe, authentic, low-density and lower environmental impact destinations has increased. The Algarve already mirrors this new reality, with nature tourism being one of the main escapes for families. Proof of this is the positive adhesion of participants to the 3rd Edition of the Barão de São João Walk & Art Fest, organized by Associação Almargem, which is the next event on the Algarve Walking Season calendar», say the organizers.

On the 6th, 7th and 8th of November, participants will be able to participate in a program consisting of 76 activities, 38 of which are walks, with various themes: geology, environment, archeology and heritage, promoted by experienced guides and tourist entertainment agents.

This year the theme is “Hope” which will be mirrored in the 19 artistic pieces conceived by 13 local artists displayed at a distance of a short walk through the beautiful village of Barão de São João. here

The aim of the Algarve Walking Season is, precisely, to attract more visitors to the interior of the Algarve, at different times of the year.

After the Baron of São João Walk & Art Fest, the WFA – Walking Festival Ameixial will be held on December 5th and 6th (new date due to postponement caused by the pandemic). The organizations of these events made several logistical adaptations to ensure that, in a simple and safe way, all the guidelines and requirements of the World Health Organization and the Directorate-General for Health are met.

The Algarve Walking Season is an initiative of the QRER Cooperative, which has the support of the Algarve Tourism Region and a partnership with the Municipality of Alcoutim and the Almargem Association.

This initiative was approved as part of an application to the Support Line for Tourist Enhancement of the Interior, promoted by Turismo de Portugal/Algarve Tourism Region.
