Portugal is at a critical stage of the covid-19 pandemic, admitted today, 28 October, the Deputy Secretary of State for Health, indicating that the global lethality rate is 1,9%, standing at 10,8% over 70 years old.

«We are at a critical stage of the pandemic and the Portuguese, without exception, will understand that if citizens are required to reinforce individual responsibility in defending our collective well-being, the Ministry of Health is required to continue to make decisions as it has done since the beginning of the pandemic, stated António Lacerda Sales.

The official also stated, at a press conference in Lisbon, that the Autumn/Winter plan, already presented, is being consolidated "by the end of the week", but that it is already being applied on the ground, at national and local level. .

The secretary of state also indicated that, after a period of study, rapid antigen tests will be part of the response to the pandemic, starting on 9 November.

«Right now, the procedures for its operationalization and for the effective use of antigen tests in the NHS are being finalized», declared António Lacerda Sales.

The Ministry of Health has expressed interest in acquiring one million tests, through a European initiative, he said.

"In addition, Portugal will also benefit from European funding, through the Portuguese Red Cross, to supply rapid tests, whose first tranche of 100.000 tests is scheduled for the week of November," he added.

According to António Lacerda Sales, this is a new response that will allow greater speed “in specific cases”.
