For the first time in an online format, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic situation, the Iberian Festival Awards marked this Saturday its 5th edition, initially scheduled for the month of March.

The Algarve was once again represented in the winners with the MED, which won two awards, and the F, which won one.

In a press release, the Câmara de Loulé explains how, in order to win the award for Best Lusophone and Hispanic Festival, it has presented a "high percentage" of bands "with a repertoire in Portuguese or Spanish".

«Lusophony has been present, not only through national projects, but also by artists from Brazil, such as Tom Zé, Curva da Cintura or Marcelo D2, and by the PALOP, of which Bonga, Lura or Os Tubarões are part of».

«The presence of Hispanic artists, from Spain or Latin America, has been a bet to attract the Spanish public. Outstanding artists from the neighboring country's music scene, such as Ojos de Brujo, Macaco or Concha Buica, or internationally recognized names in Latin American music, such as Buena Vista Social Club (Cuba) or Bajofondo Tango Club (Argentina) have already stepped on the scene. stage of the MED', he adds.

Interestingly, the award for Best Lusophone and Hispanic Festival had been won last year by F. This year, the Farense festival won the award for best live performance, in the national context, due to the concert by Ornato Violeta.

This show, which filled the Ria Stage, was part of a series of concerts that Ornatos gave, as part of the 20th anniversary of the release of the album “O Monstro Needs Friends”.

Returning to the MED Festival, this year it won the award for Best Tourism Promotion, but this time as the national winner, with the Spanish “Festival Jardins Pedralbes” winning in the Iberian context.

Since the start of the Iberian Festival Awards, the MED Festival has always been nominated in several categories, having already won the award for Best Medium Size Festival (2017 and 2018), Best Tourism Promotion in Portugal (2018) and Best Contribution to the Sustainability (2019).

«We are very happy with these distinctions, especially in an atypical year, in which unfortunately we were not able to share with our audience all the joys that this event offers us, both in artistic terms and in terms of interaction between all who come to our city to experience unique experiences and moments», refers the organization of the MED.

According to those responsible for the event, next year's edition will be organized taking into account the conditions of the pandemic, at the time the Festival takes place.

In Alentejo, MEO Sudoeste (Zambujeira do Mar, Odemira) won the Best Grand Festival award, while the Sines World Music Festival won the Iberian award for best cultural program.
