Meeting took place at Teatro das Figuras

The application team of Faro the European Capital of Culture (2027) had a meeting with technicians and leaders of the cultural area of the Algarve municipalities, reaffirming the will to involve the entire region in this process.

This meeting, which took place at Teatro das Figuras in Faro, aimed to present the projects that have been developed within the scope of the application to the other municipalities in the region, as well as to reiterate the desire for this application to be shared by all municipalities.

«We don't want to say: join us, but, yes, build something bigger for the region with us. This project cannot be extinguished in the candidacy: it must be something stronger that remains beyond the potential nomination and that shows that the regions are stronger and manage to do more for the country's development, through culture», said Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, in the intervention he made at the meeting.

Recalling that the rules for candidacy for the European Capital of Culture require that only one city should formalize it, but that the European Union is increasingly requesting that the candidate projects cover the adjacent territory, proposals for cooperation projects were presented at this meeting regional in scope Faro2027 and which will be debated at AMAL (Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve), co-producer of the application.

These regional cooperation projects aim to develop a strategic vision for the cultural and creative sector in the region, invest in the training of cultural agents but also technicians in the cultural areas of municipalities and other public bodies, and also offer more information and better communication between cultural and creative sector and its different stakeholders.

To achieve these goals, the team Faro2027 already proposes the realization of several projects in common and affirmed the desire to work with both municipal leaders and technicians.

«Culture is transversal to all areas of socio-economic life and if all the Algarve's councils unite we can even be an example for the country, showing how the region develops around culture and thus achieves better citizenship, better environment, better mobility, more jobs and better quality of life», concluded Rogério Bacalhau.
