Covid-19: CP allows refund of travel tickets between Friday and Tuesday

Rede Expressos will suppress all passenger transport activity between 00:00 on Friday and 6:00 on 3 November

CP will refund free of charge users who request money back for tickets for travel between Friday and November 3, taking into account the restrictions on movement between municipalities, said an official source at the carrier.

In response to questions raised by Lusa, CP guaranteed that it would “maintain its regular offer from the 30th of October to the 3rd of November, with no provision being made for any reduction or variation in the offer as a result of restrictions on movement between municipalities”.

Even so, "considering the content of the Resolution of the Council of Ministers, the CP will apply a temporary change in the commercial policy of reimbursements, for this specific period, allowing the free reimbursement of transport tickets, provided they are presented up to one hour before the departure of the train from the origin station of the customer's trip”, explained the carrier.

CP also indicated that "tickets for the Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Interregional, Regional and Turístico services can be refunded at the ticket offices, or online directly by the customer through the CP website", provided that the user sends a "scan of the original ticket and indication of data (name, address, IBAN and NIF)”.

CP further clarifies that this measure applies to all tickets, including those already revalidated.

This Tuesday, Rede Expressos announced the suppression of all passenger transport activity between 00:00 on Friday and 6:00 on 3 November.

"The Government's determination not to authorize the movement of people between municipalities, with very specific exceptions, prevents Rede Expressos from carrying out its operation in a normal manner", said the public road transport company, which has a fleet of buses that ensure the connection between the main cities and towns from north to south of mainland Portugal.

In a statement, the group said that "all passengers who purchased their tickets in advance may be refunded or revalidated without cost", as part of the cancellation of trips between 00:00 on Friday and 6:00 on 3 November.

Announced last Thursday, after a meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Government's decision to limit circulation between mainland councils between the 30th of October (Friday) and the 3rd of November (Tuesday), or that is, during the weekend corresponding to All Souls' Day, it aims to “contain the transmission of the virus and the spread of the disease” Covid-19.

"It seeks to prevent the movement of citizens outside the municipality of habitual residence, which could occur due to the holiday of All Saints and the Day of the Dead, from contributing as a focus of disease transmission", reads the resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 89-A/2020, adding new measures to the decree declaring the situation of disaster throughout the continental national territory due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
