Children's cinema, dance, singing, music and theater fill November in Albufeira

A whole month full of culture

The children's film “A Canção do Mar” starts the cultural program of the Municipal Auditorium in Albufeira for the month of November. But throughout the month there will be dancing, singing from Alentejo, music and theater.

Directed by Tom Moore and music by Bruno Coulais, the film “A Canção do Mar” is a 2014 production, originating in Denmark/Belgium/Ireland/Luxembourg and France. It lasts 93 minutes and is intended for children aged 6 years and over.

The story is about Ben and Searsha, two boys who live with their father in a farol of a small island. To protect them from the dangers of the sea, the grandmother takes them to the city. Ben discovers that his younger sister is a Seikie, a sea fairy, whose song can free magical beings from the fate a witch has condemned them to.

Admission is free, subject to room capacity, and the use of a mask is mandatory for children over 10 years old. For more information, call: 289 599 591.

On November 14th (Saturday), at 21 pm, the doors of the Auditorium open for the “Cabaret dos Amigos”, a solidarity show by Ana Sofia Brito & Guests in favor of CASA – Support Center for the Homeless – Albufeira nucleus , where the artist is a volunteer.

Ana Sofia invites her friends to the show commemorating her 20-year career in her hometown, in an initiative where music, poetry, dance and circus activities will not be lacking, with numerous artists closely linked to the hostess and mostly natives or residents of Albufeira.

Tickets cost 5 euros and can be purchased at the Albufeira Municipal Gallery, on weekdays from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 13:30 pm to 17:00 pm, or at the Municipal Auditorium, on the day of the show, between 19:30 pm and 21:15 pm.

“Ardente – Memorial for Pedro and Inês”, is the show that ACTA – The Algarve Theater Company brings to Albufeira, on the 20th (Friday), from 21 pm.

It has been 650 years since Inês' remains were transferred to Alcobaça. There she is, Inês (and he, Pedro), locked up in her tomb, in which Pedro had the message “Until the end of the World” recorded. It is not a question of following a historical script of the time and tragedy in question, "it will instead lean towards an approach with a mythical bent, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, towards a reflection on Love and Death", explains the ACT.

Tickets cost 5 euros and are also on sale at the Municipal Gallery and Auditorium on the day of the show, on the days and times already mentioned.

The “Central Arts – Cultural Networking Program” project will be in Albufeira on the 25th and 28th of November. This is a joint initiative of five municipalities in the Central Algarve (Loulé, Albufeira, Faro, Olhão and Tavira), following the application made to CRESC Algarve 2020.

On the 25th of November (Wednesday) there will be two Workshops entitled “Pinto-me Dançando”, which are inspired by the Ballet Wanze Ramirez and the traditional dances of the Algarve.

The first session, which runs from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, is dedicated to children, children from 6 to 10 years old (maximum participation of 10 children). The second session of the Workshop is aimed at the adult audience (maximum participation of 10 people) and is scheduled between 16:00 and 18:00.

For the 28th (Friday), two more cultural moments are planned, a Workshop on Cante Alentejano and a concert, both under the responsibility of Celina da Piedade.

The Cante Alentejano Workshop, at 17 pm, lasting two hours, is aimed at people over 00 years old and has a maximum capacity for 17 people.

Cante Alentejano is a polyphonic vocal practice from southern Portugal, recognized as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2014. It has always served as a vehicle for expressing a strong social conscience. At the same time, it is a practice that, due to its collective and voluntary nature, helps to keep alive, within the communities in which it operates, the notion that cohesion (of all voices) is essential to the maintenance of the social fabric. .

Celina da Piedade has dedicated much of her work to the investigation and dissemination of Alentejo's musical heritage. In this workshop, you will get to know some of the many “fads” that make up the Alentejo songbook, show the main musical and poetic characteristics of this vocal practice and, above all, make everyone experience the strength of Cante with their united voices.

To participate, those interested should send registration to: [email protected] (more information: 289 246 948 | 289 599 645.

On the same day, at 21 pm, Celina takes a concert in the form of a trio to the Albufeira Municipal Auditorium: Celina da Piedade (vocals and accordion), Sofia Neide (bass and vocals) and Filipa Ribeiro (percussions and vocals).

Anyone who has seen the artist in concert recognizes her immense charisma. “Celina da Piedade has taken her accordion and her voice to the most different contexts, somewhere between the traditional shapes and colors, on journeys through the memories of music with Portuguese roots and a more modern and universalist feeling. He draws a song full of soul and personality, which, on stage, wins with his formidable presence”, more than enough reasons not to miss this show that promises to be memorable.

Participation in the concert is free, but subject to room capacity. Tickets must be purchased at the Municipal Auditorium on the day of the show, from 20:00 pm to 21:00 pm. For more information, call the phones: 289 246 948| 289 599 645.
