Central Artes brings workshops and street theater to Tavira

The project “Central Arts – Cultural Networking Programming” is a joint initiative of five municipalities in the Central Algarve (Loulé, Albufeira, Faro, Olhão and Tavira)

A workshop on the construction of masks and a street theater, on the 23rd and 24th of October, and another workshop called “Pinto-me dancing”, on the 26th of November. These are initiatives of the “Central Arts – Cultural Networking Program” project that will take place in Tavira.

On the 23rd (18:00 – 20:00) and 24 (10:00 – 12:00) the mask construction workshop for families will take place at Mercado da Ribeira. The action, free of charge, will have a limited number of 15 people, and prior registration must be made through the email [email protected].

This workshop is directed by Pedro Domingues Leal, artist and performer, who has several national and international formations in his curriculum, linked to this universe of animated forms, as well as the different techniques of construction of masks from Nepal and Bali.

The play “Passagem” will take place on the 24th, at 17 pm, in the Jardim da Igreja de São Francisco. A performance that tells the story of «four old travelers who walk through a universe of suspended objects, where, through the memories of the past, which wrapped up their lives, they find the beginning of a new journey».

It is a public art project, a performance/installation that appears with the aim of valuing artistic intervention in public space and transforming it into a true privileged stage for visual poetry.

This installation was created, entirely, through the collection and reuse of objects and textile waste that here gain a new form and life, keeping, however, their stories.

Alongside these initiatives, a new interdisciplinary workshop entitled “Pinto-me dancing” is also planned for Tavira, at Mercado da Ribeira, on November 26th, with the session, between 10:00 and 12:00, It is intended for children and youth (25 children) and the session, between 16:00 pm and 18:00 pm, is for adults (15 people).

The project “Central Arts – Cultural Networking Programming” is a joint initiative of five municipalities in the Central Algarve (Loulé, Albufeira, Faro, Olhão and Tavira) following an application made to CRESC Algarve 2020 (Regional Operational Program of the Algarve), a financial instrument, with community funds, which aims to support the development of the Algarve.

This inter-municipal project foresees the implementation of a network cultural offer program involving the five municipalities, for two years (2020 and 2021), and exploring various aspects of the performing arts, with artistic direction, content and production under the responsibility of the Eventors'Lab companies and Spira – Heritage Revitalization, with the theme of the “Culture of Sustainability” program.

It is intended with this project – and in line with “Movimenta-te”, which took place in 2011 and 2012, in the Algarve, also in a logic of inter-municipal cooperation – to foster and deepen collaborative practices between the various members involved, a greater diversification of the cultural offer , thinking not only of the resident population, but also of the various segments linked to cultural tourism, in order to even fight seasonality and gradually consolidate the Algarve as a tourist region of high notoriety.
