Trends and challenges of Tourism in the Algarve are the subject of a webinar promoted by ESGHT

Some of the main players in tourism and hospitality are guest speakers

João Soares, general director of Hotel Dom José and regional delegate of the Hotel Association of Portugal, Lino Martins, of the AP Hotels & Resorts group, Reinaldo Teixeira, CEO of Garvetur and Enolagest SGPS, Ricardo Sobral, founder of Ricky Travel, and also Rui Vasconcelos, founder of the companies FWDhotels – FWDtrips – Gigs4.us, is the guest speaker of the webinar «Tourism in the Algarve: Trends and Challenges», which will take place this Friday, the 9th, between 18pm and 20pm, through the zoom platform.

Balance of the Tourism sector, especially in the Algarve, in such an atypical year, recovery and support measures, trends, the new consumer, the new normal, as well as opportunities, challenges, innovation and digitization of the sector are the themes to be addressed throughout two hours of debate, by some of the main tourism players in the region.

The opening of the webinar will be made by Paulo Águas, dean of the University of Algarve, and by Alexandra Gonçalves, director of the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism at UAlg. Moderation will be in charge of the journalist Elisabete Rodrigues, director of Sul Informação.

This webinar results from the joint organization of the Hotel Management and Tourism courses, having been created with the celebrations of the World Tourism Day (which took place on 27 September) and the 29 years of the ESGHT Hotel Management and Tourism courses in mind .

This will be the 1st edition of the “What's Next” webinars, this time with the theme of tourism in the Algarve.

JOÃO SOARES
Born in Vila Real de Santo António, 53 years old, he graduated in Hotel Management in the city of London, in 1991, having later taken a degree in Hotel Management in Portugal.
Son and grandson of hoteliers, he made contact with the hotel industry from an early age. He performed functions in all departments of the Hotel until, in 2005, he assumed the position and functions of General Director of the Dom Jose Beach Hotel.
Between 2005 and 2011, he was Vice-President of Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA) and Vice-President of AIHSA.
As General Director of Dom José Beach Hotel and, after requalification in 2011, the Hotel was nominated for the Best Hotel in its category in Portugal, being awarded in 2012, 2013, 2014 , 2015 , 2017 and 2019 .
In 2015, he was awarded a career award for his performance in favor of Algarve Tourism. In 2016 and during its management, the Hotel also received the award from the Algarve Tourism Region, the Medal of Tourist Merit and the Silver Grade Medal of Merit awarded by the Municipality of Loulé.
Currently, he performs the functions of member and representative of the Algarve on the General Council of Portugal Hospitality Association (AHP), General Management at Dom José Beach Hotel, along with the development of other personal projects in the real estate area and hotel consultancy.

 

LINO MARTINS
He entered the University of Algarve with a degree in Hotel Management in 1995, which marked his life path forever, as he no longer returned to his origins, in the city of Setúbal.
Professionally, he started his career in 1999 at Grupo Pestana. He then visited Vila Sol Spa & Golf Resort (at the time a member of Leading Hotels of the World) and CS Hotels (now NAU).
He has just completed eight years at the service of Grupo AP, as commercial director. At the time, with only one unit, Adriana Beach Club, the group grew and now owns six units, in Portimão (Hotel Oriental), Albufeira (Adriana Beach Club & Victoria Sports), Faro (Hotel EVA SENSES) and Tavira (Cabanas Park & ​​Maria Nova Lounge Hotel), giving rise to the group AP Hotels & Resorts.
However, he still managed to carry out a postgraduate degree in Hotel Management (also at the University of Algarve).

 

REINALDO TEIXEIRA
56 years old, graduated in Real Estate Management and Mediation, Founder (1983) and CEO of the company Garvetur, SA - Real Estate Mediation and Tourist Lease and also of Enolagest, SGPS, which covers 41 participated companies, operating in the tourism industry cycle.

 

 

RICARDO SOBRAL
With a degree in Tourism from the University of Algarve and a postgraduate degree in hotel management, he began his professional career as a management intern at the Pestana Dom João II hotel.
In 2005, he was invited to become the general director of the Hotel Santa Catarina Algarve, a position he held until 2016, later becoming a consultant.
In 2013, he launched his personal project rickytravel, a travel agency specializing in the sale of online accommodation, which is currently a reference in the sector in the national market.
Linked to sports and associations from a very early age, he is also president of the football club in his parish, Mexilhoeira Grande Futebol Clube.

 

RUI VASCONCELOS
Entrepreneur, founder of companies FWDhotels, FWD trips, Gigas4.us.
He worked as a hotel manager at Grupo Nau, Corinthia Hotels, Imocom Hotels & Resorts and taught New Trends in Hospitality at the Hotel and Tourism Schools of Algarve and Estoril.
He studied Hotel Management at UAlg, International Management at ISCTE, Management Assessment and Performance Control at Universidade Nova.
