Albufeira installs charging station for electric vehicles in Vale Paraíso

This is the first public investment fast charging station for electric vehicles, installed in the municipality.

Albufeira has a new charging station for electric vehicles in Vale Paraíso, close to the Seaside store.

This is the first public investment rapid charging station for electric vehicles, installed in the municipality, equipped with a 50 kW three-phase charger and the capacity to supply vehicles with direct and alternating current energy.

José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, says that «the expansion of the network of electric vehicle chargers to various points in the county, together with the conversion of part of the municipal fleet of internal combustion vehicles (end of life) to electric vehicles , contributes to the promotion of sustainable mobility in the region, a measure that meets the national objective of achieving a 9% reduction in energy this year».

This station in Vale Paraíso allows one vehicle to be recharged at a time, taking 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the vehicle's state of charge, travel destination and weather and battery health conditions.

It has three types of plug, in order to adapt to any electric vehicle (CHAdeMO, CCS2 and Type 2) and can be used by everyone, as long as the vehicle owner has a valid contract with an Energy Trading Company for Electric Mobility (CEME). The system is very simple and the card provided by CEME works at 1094 charging stations in Portugal.

Currently, in addition to Vale Paraíso, there are three normal charging stations in operation (2 type 2 sockets of 22 Kw each): one in the car park on Rua do Município, another on Rua Manuel Bentes Júnior, next to the Car Park P1, and the third on Rua Manuel Teixeira Gomes, in Corcovada.

By the end of the year, it is planned to install seven more normal charging stations, in order to cover all parishes in the municipality. The equipment will be installed in the following locations: Avenida Infante D. Henrique (Albufeira), Rua Maria Teresa Azevedo (Albufeira), Rua 25 de Abril (Olhos de Água), Avenida 12 de Julho (Ferreiras), Rua das Escolas (Paderne), Rua do Mercado (Guia) and Rua do Barlavento, in Salgados (Albufeira).

To complete the network, there is still a need to install a normal charging station at Alameda da Orada, in Marina de Albufeira, equipment which, like the Corcovada station, results from the institutional collaboration protocol signed by the Municipality with the Tourism Institute of Portugal, MOBI.E,SA (managing entity of the electric mobility network), the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) and the Association of Driverless Car Rental Industry (ARAC), with a view to promoting electric mobility in the region.

The agreement foresees that the Municipality of Albufeira, together with the other municipalities in the Algarve, will implement a network for charging electric vehicles and promote support and temporary exemptions from payment for charging and parking during the pilot phase of the project.
