UAlg and Local Accommodation Companies Work to Increase Student Beds

Partnership will allow reinforcement of up to 170 beds

The University of the Algarve wants to establish partnerships with Local Accommodation operators, to find «speedy and alternative» solutions, which allow «to increase the number of beds for displaced students», in Faro.

According to the Algarve Academy which, this Monday, met with Local Accommodation operators, the objective is, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Higher Education and the Chamber of Faro, give answer «the high number of candidates placed in the 1st phase of the National Competition for Access to Higher Education, which had the largest increase in the last 20 years».

UAlg adds that ten operators have already expressed their interest in participating, which will allow for a reinforcement of up to 170 beds, available at regulated prices, the value of which cannot exceed 241,35 euros per student.

This platform «is being updated, and is still open to other LA operators interested in joining the initiative», highlights the University of Algarve.

In addition to this reinforcement of accommodation, the Algarve academy emphasizes that «the Social Action Services of the University of Algarve have 9 University Residences, with 533 beds, for undergraduate and master's students. Scholarship holders covered by the Scholarship Attribution System have priority, the rest being able to benefit from this support, if the number of available beds so allows».

UAlg considers that this measure "constitutes an important support for students and their families, allowing them to find more adequate solutions, both in monitoring and in the transparency of the offers made available".

The number and type of beds available, as well as the participating operators, will be daily here, “in a process of permanent monitoring”.

“The information will be made available as soon as possible”, concludes UAlg.
