PSP registered 308 administrative offenses in August for non-compliance with the rules

The Police considers that the police oversight activity resulted in "a low level of non-compliance" in the country.

The PSP registered 308 administrative offenses in August for violating the Covid-19 containment rules, with the consumption of alcoholic beverages on public roads being responsible for about half of the fines, said that security force today.

In a statement, the Public Security Police said that, in August, 150 people were fined for consuming alcohol on public roads and 63 for not wearing a mask or a visor on public transport.

The PSP also registered 19 infractions for non-compliance with the rules of occupation, permanence and physical distance in places open to the public and fined 35 people who attended establishments, concert halls or public buildings without using protective equipment, such as a mask or visor, besides having picked up a car from a disco that was working illegally.

According to this security force, 35 infractions were registered related to situations of restaurant establishments in breach of the opening or closing hours (00:00 am as a limit for the entrance of customers and 1:00 am for closing) and three of unauthorized holding of celebrations and other events that involve an agglomeration of people in a number greater than 20 (except masses, weddings, baptisms and company events).

The PSP also reports two administrative offenses for non-compliance with the rules imposed by the health authority on the functioning of a certain activity or establishment.

The Police considers that the police oversight activity resulted in "a low level of non-compliance" in the country, but "still deserves concern", since the people involved in each of these offenses were exposed to the risk of contagion.

Most of the country is on alert due to covid-19, with the exception of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, which is in a contingency situation.

The Government must announce today the new measures that will be applied to the entire country, which will enter into a contingency situation as of September 15th.
