"The 300 million that come from the European Union must be used well to diversify the Algarve's economy" and not to forget the interior territories, he defended the President of the Republic, today, sunday, in Alcoutim.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was today in this municipality in the Northeast of the Algarve, a territory very affected by desertification and the aging of the population, which is a «good example» of the «several Algarves» that exist.

«Because in addition to the Algarve of beach and bathing tourism, let's say, there is another Algarve. We are talking about mountainous territories and a very deep and desertified interior, where it is necessary to find ways to invest in new economic activities», defended the Head of State.

Finding ways to boost the economy of the interior of the region is one of the challenges facing the Algarve.

“Everything indicates that there is money for this. Now, as I said, it is necessary that the mayors of the Algarve are involved in the management of this amount and that it is not a bureaucratic, remote management that does not involve those who best know the local reality», concluded Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
