New DiVaM is made with more cultural agents to respond to the crisis

Algarve Regional Directorate of Culture chose to support more entities and to have an "intense program" until the end of the year

Until the end of the year, the DiVaM – Promotion and Enhancement of Monuments program will support more cultural agents than usual, to help them overcome the crisis caused by the pandemic.

The Regional Directorate will present tomorrow, Saturday, at Ruínas de Milreu, in Estoi (Faro), this year's edition of DiVaM, which will ensure "an intense program" in six monuments in five municipalities, guaranteed by 27 cultural associations in the Algarve. The timing of events is also different, as the season is just starting due to the pandemic.

In 2020 the DiVam theme is “Human Rights, Equality and Non-Discrimination”.

Despite not wanting to advance specific initiatives, so as not to lift the veil too much on what will be presented tomorrow, Adriana Nogueira, the regional director of Culture of the Algarve, told the Sul Informação that the program takes into account the crisis caused by Covid-19.

"We are going to support more associations, because this pandemic situation has led us to want to support as many organizations as possible, among those that have come to us for this support," he explained.

“This program could be an oxygen balloon for many cultural agents and we knew that. That's why we make this effort», said Adriana Nogueira.

Thus, and taking into account that, due to the pandemic, instead of the usual nine months, DiVam will have to take place, this year, in just three and a half months, «there will be activities practically every weekend».

“This was discussed a lot within the Regional Directorate, because either we didn't support everyone or there would have to be activities every weekend. So we launched into this adventure of not stopping», he said.

"This will be difficult to combine, even with our team, but it was our bet: to support everyone and make an intense program until December", reinforced the regional director of Culture.

As always, the action will be spread over six monuments in the Algarve, assigned to the Regional Directorate, located in five municipalities: the Roman Ruins of Milreu (Faro), the Fortress of Sagres and the Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Vila do Bispo), the Castle of Paderne (Albufeira), the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar (Portimão) and the Castle of Aljezur.

“We are going to have two activities in those monuments that are being transferred from the Regional Directorate of Culture to the municipalities, namely two in Paderne Castle, two in Alcalar and many others in Aljezur Castle”, he revealed.

«Then, the bulk of the activities will be in the Fortress of Sagres and in the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guadalupe, in Vila do Bispo, and in the Ruins of Milreu, in Faro», added Adriana Nogueira.

The kick-off for the program will be given tomorrow, in Milreu, with the presentation of the project “Music: from all and for all”.

This is a «musical performance with wind and percussion instruments and directed by Albano Neto, whose musical pieces, influenced by different parts of the world and with symbolism associated with the issue of human rights, will be interspersed with the orality of micro-tales by Fernando Guerreiro , in a common thread demonstrating the universality of music and the importance of the word, as a way of transmitting a message».

This show is held following the celebration of the National Day of Philharmonic Bands and is promoted by ACREMS- Associação Cultural e Recreativa Escola de Música Sambrasense.

Many more initiatives followed, including educational workshops, performing, musical and interdisciplinary projects, lectures, cinema, literature or the visual arts. The September schedule can be found below.

This is an example of the resumption of cultural activity that, as he told the Sul Informação Ângela Ferreira, Assistant Secretary of State and Cultural Heritage, is "being relaunched across the country".

«The 365Algarve has already started and the DiVAM will be launched this weekend. Then there are many other activities, which result not only from our normal cultural program, but also from all the municipalities, with whom we have been working closely», added the official.

Adriana Nogueira, for her part, recalls the cultural action that the entity she directs promotes, “in which DiVAM is part, as well as 365Algarve, which is already resuming activities”.

“We will also have the “Don't Play with Fire”, an action to raise awareness, through culture, for the care that needs to be taken in rural areas, in order to avoid fires”, he recalled.

"We are trying to support as much as we can, when we can, under the circumstances," the regional director of Culture assured our newspaper.
