Lagos joins the Network of Municipalities for Local Adaptation to Climate Change

This decision was taken at the last Chamber meeting

Lagos will join the adapt.local association – Network of Municipalities for Local Adaptation to Climate Change, as a way “to take another step in the fight against this great scourge”.

This decision was taken at the last Chamber meeting that took place on the 2nd of September, and this adhesion was decided upon through the payment of an annual fee of 1000 euros.

Created in 2016 following the ClimAdaPT.Local project, adapt.local is formed by a partnership led by municipalities, but which also involves higher education institutions, research centers, non-governmental organizations and companies.

Among its objectives are the development and implementation of solutions and options for adapting to climate change, contributing to the empowerment of Portuguese municipalities in this area and promoting the incorporation of adaptation measures to this problem in local policies, planning instruments and interventions.

«Given the geography of its coastal territory, climate change is a factor of increased concern in Lagos and the Algarve», says the municipality.

"For this reason, this issue has been a priority in the municipality's strategies, namely through the elaboration of the Municipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PMAAC-L), approved in January 2019, which allows for the assessment and reduction of the climate vulnerabilities of the Lacobrigense territory and promote adaptation measures”, he concludes.
