Jamila Madeira and José Apolinário are no longer secretaries of state

Of the trio of secretaries of State in the Algarve, only Jorge Botelho remains

The Algarve's Jamila Madeira and José Apolinário are no longer secretaries of state. The prime minister today proposed the replacement of five secretaries of State from his Government to the President of the Republic, who accepted these changes, covering the Ministries of Education, Health, Infrastructure and Housing, and the Sea.

This information is contained in a note published on the website of the Presidency of the Republic on the Internet.

Jamila Madeira, former leader of the Socialist Youth, MEP and leader of the PS, leaves the functions of Assistant Secretary of State and Health.

The position is now performed by the Secretary of State for Health António Sales, who rises in the hierarchy of the team led by Minister Marta Temido.

José Apolinário's departure comes as no surprise. It was already known that he would leave the Government, to Candidate in October for the election of President of the Coordination and Regional Committee of the Algarve, a position that, taking into account the composition of the electoral college and the fact that there is no longer any candidate, is assured.

Apolinário is replaced at the Secretary of State for Fisheries by Teresa Estêvão Pedro, a lawyer and who was Portugal's representative on the Board of Directors of the European Fisheries Control Agency between 2010 and 2012.

In fact, according to the newspaper “Público”, the prime minister decided to take advantage of the departure of José Apolinário, secretary of State for Fisheries, for the presidency of the CCDR-Algarve and carry out a broader remodeling.

With the departure of Jamila and Apolinário, from the Algarve who had been called to the Government of António Costa, only Jorge Botelho, former mayor of Tavira and AMAL, who is Secretary of State for Decentralization and Local Administration, remains.
