Theodoro Fonseca says that "justice was done" with the permanence of Portimonense

Majority shareholder of SAD do Portimonense made a point of expressing its "solidarity with Vitória de Setúbal"

«Proud, even for having been done justice», but also «solidarity with Vitória de Setúbal». This is how Theodoro Fonseca, the majority shareholder of SAD do Portimonense, reacts to decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD), this Thursday, 26th of August, confirming that the Algarve will compete in the XNUMXst Football League next season.

At issue are financial irregularities by Vitória de Setúbal, which led to Liga de Clubes to, on the 29th of July, invite Portimonense to stay in the I Liga.

The sadinos filed an injunction, forwarded to the TAD by the Portuguese Football Federation, but which was rejected, in a decision known yesterday, the 26th. In other words: Portimonense, despite having dropped out of division on the field, achieved the much desired maintenance through the administrative route.

Heard by Sul Informação, Theodoro Fonseca considered that the administration of the Algarve “is to be congratulated for having fulfilled all the requirements”.

Even so, the top leader of Portimonense insisted on expressing his “solidarity with Vitória de Setúbal”.

“The reaction is one of pride, even for having done justice, but I'm only partially satisfied. In a football game, there are those who win and those who lose and I have to show my solidarity with Vitória de Setúbal, a historic club with a fantastic city. I think that Portuguese football is lacking and I believe they will come back stronger in a short time», said the official.

Stressing that he believes "a lot in justice in Portugal", Theodoro Fonseca also explained that, when Portimonense dropped out of division, "he gathered the players, saying that we were going to come back stronger, regardless of the division".

Now that they know they will compete in the I League, Portimonense is aiming for maintenance. “It's the main objective. Portimonense is a solid, visionary project and we seek to be an example in Portugal and abroad».

To this end, Theodoro stresses that the Algarve is still waiting for "some reinforcements", after having already signed players such as Fabrício, Maurício or Wellington. Also Safawi Rasid, a promise of Maldives football, has already been confirmed on loan.

“There are still gaps. Our coach asked for some players», summarized the SAD majority shareholder, without wanting to name names.

On the other side of the medal, Bruno Tabata, one of the best players in Portimonense, «is at the exit door», told Theodoro to Sul Informação.

“He will arrive on Sunday and will decide his future. There is a Portuguese club and two foreigners who are interested», explained the SAD majority shareholder, without specifying which ones.

Next season, the Algarve will again have two teams in the I Football League, something that hasn't happened since 2010/2011 (at the time with Portimonense and Olhanense) and which Theodoro Fonseca likes very much.

«I welcome the presence of two Algarve teams in the I Liga because the region is growing. Sportingly, we are well represented. The more teams there are in the I League, the more beneficial it will be for the Algarve and Portimonense», he concluded.
