Startup Portimão “offers” guides to support entrepreneurs on birthdays

“Portimão é a Option” and “Um Mergulho em Portimão” are the names of the two publications presented yesterday

Two guides to support entrepreneurs and investors wishing to invest in the municipality of Portimão were launched yesterday, during StartUp Portimão's 3rd year anniversary party.

The business incubator and accelerator of business ideas from Portimo also took the opportunity to promote the presentation of the BreakfastAway project, an online fooddelivery platform, in charge of the Brazilian Leonardo Silva, who is one of the most recent entrepreneurs of the local incubator, under the Startup program Visa.

“Portimão é a Option” and “Um Mergulho em Portimão” are the names of the two publications presented yesterday at an event that took place at StartUp Portimão, at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve.

In the first case, it is a guide “represents a new step towards attracting investment, something the municipality has already been doing, but now in the form of a structured, useful and practical tool”, according to the Chamber of Portimao.

In “Portimão é a Option” you can find information with a view to supporting investors who want to come to the municipality of Portimão, providing an overview of the available support infrastructure, cultural opportunities, cost of living, gastronomy and accessibility, without forgetting the natural beauty of the region, while identifying business opportunities, startups, commercial establishments and industries'.

As for the guide “Um Mergulho em Portimão”, “it is a practical manual, of quick reference, with contacts and useful tips for entrepreneurs, ranging from how to manage time and energy, to more technical topics related to the preparation of a pitch or the preparation of a business plan and even a financial statement».

"In addition, it provides exercises designed to encourage entrepreneurs to reflect on themselves as entrepreneurs and on aspects intrinsic to the business, such as the associated risks, legal aspects, the profile of investors and attracting partners", describes the municipality of Portimo. .

These publications were presented by Luís Matos Martins, representing StartUp Portimão, to entrepreneurs and business partners of the incubator, as well as to João Torres, Secretary of State for Commerce, Services and Consumer Protection, and Isilda Gomes, president of the Chamber of Portimao.

The mayor from Portimão shared “the clear desire for Startup Portimão to be a space where opportunities are built so that those who want to create their company can make their dreams come true”.

Isilda Gomes also launched a challenge «to upgrade companies in the tourism sector, betting on innovation».

«We know how to exploit all the assets of the Algarve to improve the quality of life of our fellow citizens and the capacity to receive our tourists», he defended.

João Torres, for his part, recognized the work of the Municipality of Portimão to foster an entrepreneurial ecosystem and defended that «it is necessary to continue to believe in the future».

And Startup Portimão has already begun to think about the times ahead, «in a concerted strategy with the Municipality of Portimão».

The objective is to diversify "into other economic areas, in addition to Tourism, the most relevant sector in the region".

«An effective and consistent interaction with the critical mass and local entrepreneurs is also planned, through the organization of strategic meetings with players of the various areas of the economic fabric. One of the main bets will be the positioning of Startup Portimão across borders, through the dissemination of entrepreneur and investor guides in English and international partnerships, counting for this purpose with GEN Portugal, which will be present in the daily life of Algarve incubator”, according to the Portimão Chamber.

The Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) «is the world's largest entrepreneurship network, managing a platform of projects and programs in 170 countries, with the aim of facilitating the process of starting and growing a business, for anyone, anywhere».

The 2nd Bootcamp in English and attracting foreign startups for the incubator are also planned. Currently, 25% of the entrepreneurs in this incubator «are already from other countries».

Operating since 2017 in facilities located at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, StartUp Portimão «has been a successful bet by the Municipality in terms of supporting entrepreneurship and leveraging innovation, currently with 20 incubated startups (physics) and virtually), 80 percent of which in the SmartCities area».

This accelerator “aggregates more than 45 regional, national and international partners, which contribute to the entrepreneurial ecosystem becoming more and more a reality in the Algarve region”.
In the last three years, Startup Portimão has carried out 130 initiatives and 200 hours of training and has «more than 40 mentors, in addition to 13 alumni, currently with 26 jobs».
