President Marcelo visited Lagos Zoo and Ostraselect

This is the second time the Head of State has visited Lagos this summer

The President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was this Wednesday, the 5th, on an official visit to the municipality of Lagos, to get to know two of the most important economic and tourist centers in this Barlavento area.

The visit began at the Lagos Zoo, where Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa appreciated the work carried out in this park and all his effort for survival in this difficult pandemic context.

This is because Lagos Zoo has lost thousands of visitors over the last few months, in particular the scheduled visits of more than XNUMX children and students from schools in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo, and also from the foreign public at this time of summer, factors which have led to large revenue shortfalls.

The visit continued at Ostraselect, a renowned oyster production company, which has been facing difficult economic times due to a sharp drop in sales, especially in terms of exports.

For the President, “it is important to understand that the Algarve is much more than sun and beaches. There is nature, there is history, there is culture, there is heritage, there is gastronomy, and this is an example of what can and should be visited”.

Last month, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa had already been to Lagos, in what was the second working meeting with the Algarve's mayors, where the economic situation of the region was analyzed, and where the best alternatives were tried to increase the number of visitors, “in what has been a constant struggle. carried out by businessmen, hoteliers, workers from various areas, mayors, who have been able to push for the development of the region and therefore deserve a very positive note”, he says.

The President of the Republic thus keeps his promise to visit all the Algarve's municipalities and demonstrate that the Algarve is not only a totally safe destination that complies with all the rules, but also a destination that has much more to offer, in addition to sun and beach .

The visit was accompanied by the Mayor Hugo Pereira, by the deputy to the Assembly of the Republic and former mayor, Maria Joaquina Matos, and also by the presidents of the Municipal Assembly, Paulo Morgado, and the council's Parish Councils.
