The Castro Fair, which would take place on the 16th, 17th and 18th of October, has been cancelled, the Chamber of Castro Verde has just announced, after "a very thoughtful evaluation" due to Covid-19.

«The Castro Fair has a huge dimension and attracts thousands of people from different parts of the country. At a time when we are experiencing a difficult state of pandemic, with all the associated risks, promoting Feira de Castro would be a real irresponsibility», justifies the municipality, in a statement.

“The City Council understands that the defense of the Health of all citizens in the municipality of Castro Verde is a total priority, unassailable and cannot be overridden by any other interests”, he adds.

Even so, the municipality admits that this was a “very difficult and truly painful decision”.

Furthermore, this year, Feira de Castro completes 400 years of history.

In 2020 there will be no Fair, but the municipality says it will symbolically mark the date. In 2021, the event returns on the 14th, 15th and 16th of October.
