A 27-year-old German man died today at Praia do Castelejo, in Vila do Bispo, after being dragged along with five other people by a water worker. A second man, around 30 years old, was taken out of the water unconscious, but was revived by INEM.

Conceição Duarte, captain of Porto de Lagos, advanced to the Sul Informação that, at about 13:45 pm, “six people were dragged by a waterer. Four of them, with the help of surfers, bathers and elements of the “Praia Segura” program, managed to get out of the water, by their own feet, unharmed».

However, “two men remained in the water and, when it was possible to remove them, they were unconscious. INEM managed to revive one of them, who was transported by ambulance to the hospital, but the second ended up dying on the spot”, the death having been declared by the INEM helicopter team.

Conceição Duarte explained to our newspaper that Praia do Castelejo, «this year, is an unsupervised beach. The bathing support did not install a lifeguard”, which led to the fact that the Blue Flag, which had been awarded to this bathing area, was not hoisted.

In addition to INEM, the Amarok vehicle from the “SeaWatch” project, the SR-33 vessel from the Sagres Lifeguard Station, the Lagos Maritime Police picket and an ambulance from the Vila do Bispo Fire Brigade were activated for this rescue operation. .
