«If Desidério Silva decided to follow a different path, this is dictated by his own conscience and not by the fact that the party has treated him badly, at least at the local level. We never did!». The guarantee is given by Cristiano Cabrita, president of the Municipal Section of the PSD of Albufeira, in response to the departure of the party, announced by the former mayor on his Facebook page.
The also former president of the Algarve Tourism Region claimed, in a publication on that social network, that his decision to leave the party was linked to «little or no interest the party had in my knowledge and what was my baggage, these last two years'.
He also said that, despite having informed the president of the local PSD on the same day he sent a letter to the national leader of the Social Democrats, announcing his intention to disassociate, after “a month there was no response either from the national PSD , either local'.
Cristiano Cabrita, for his part, in statements to Sul Informação, expressed his surprise at Desidério Silva's attitude.
Stressing that there was never an official communication addressed to the Municipal Section, but only "a personal message saying that he had sent a letter to Rui Rio to disassociate himself from the party", the president of the PSD/Albufeira recalls that, on the same night as received this message, he replied to Desidério Silva.
“I'm not going to reveal a whole private conversation here, but after half an hour I told him: you have a career in the party, you leave a very important legacy at the local, regional and national level in the party, in my inauguration, where they were 200 and such people, I mentioned the work that Desiderio had done».
"There was never any animosity on the part of the Section, the work was being developed by the members of the Political Commission, there were times when he was invited to various situations in the party, others where he was not, but that is part of the dynamics", he added.
«I was the campaign director for Luís Montenegro [who disputed and lost the PSD presidency with Rui Rio] and he also saw himself in the positions of Luís Montenegro. I had the opportunity to talk to him, to invite him to be present at the campaign», recalled Cristiano Cabrita.
"Publicly, I have always praised his work, including in my inauguration, in which I made a point of remembering the legacy he left in Albufeira, which has always deserved all our respect", he stressed.
«We respect the work he has developed over 12 years at the helm of the Municipality, but naturally there should also be respect here, on his part, for the work being done now by the current mayor», José Carlos Rolo, who is even a person who "was always by the side" of Desidério Silva when he was mayor, said the president of the local PSD, in his statements to the Sul Informação.
"Right now, we have a mayor [elected by the PSD] in office, who is carrying out his work, very seriously, there is a lot of time for the next Municipalities and the Municipal Section of the PSD has to support the current president" , concluded Cristiano Cabrita.
As to statements by David Santos to our newspaper, saying that «The District does not have, from the Political Committee of Section itself, any indication that would give us any idea of what the now ex-militant Desidério might want», the leader of the PSD of Albufeira says only that «the Municipal Section did not transmit anything to District because there was nothing to broadcast. On our part there was never any animosity towards Desidério Silva, quite the contrary».
