FlixBus bets on the Algarve with domestic and more frequent trips to southern Spain

More trips to southern Spain during the summer season and first domestic lines connecting the region to the rest of the country

FlixBus, Europe's largest intercity bus tour operator, will strengthen its operation from the Algarve. From the 30th of July, the Portuguese will be able to choose to travel with FlixBus between some Portuguese cities, including Albufeira and Faro. In addition to the domestic network, the company increased travel frequencies from the Algarve region to southern Spain, more precisely to Seville and Huelva.

The company guarantees that all connections will be made with «a fleet of new and comfortable buses, which follow the highest safety standards, with free Wi-Fi, extra legroom and low gas emissions, in line with regulations EURO VI'.

In order to contribute to the boost of tourism in the region, FlixBus will reinforce the number of frequencies in the international operation, connecting Faro and Albufeira in the south of Spain with tickets starting at 5,99 euros.

Besides, for celebrating the first domestic lines, FlixBus will offer 1 euro tickets, which can be purchased from today until the 29th of July, for travel between the 30th of July and the 15th of September. This campaign is exclusively for domestic travel and tickets can only be purchased via the website or App.

Pablo Pastega, General Manager of FlixBus in Portugal and Spain, says he is confident the Algarve will continue to be a top destination for Portuguese and foreigners this summer – and hopes to increase supply and expand the network very soon.

“The pandemic has strongly shaken the tourism sector around the world, and the Algarve was no exception. We want to help reverse the trend and give more transport options to all the Portuguese who want to spend their holidays on the Algarve's beaches and also strengthen the region's connections to the south of Spain, to receive all foreigners who favor a summer in the south of Portugal».

With the launch of the domestic operation, Portuguese cities are joining FlixBus' network of 400 daily connections to 2.500 destinations in Europe. The combination of the domestic and international network will result in a total of 230 trips per week in Portugal.

Traveling in Coronavirus Time: Security Measures

Hygiene and safety are one of the company's main priorities, which is why new disinfection and cleaning processes are being implemented between each trip.

In line with the guidelines of the Directorate-General for Health, passengers will have to wear a mask, as well as the drivers and all FlixBus teams responsible for the maintenance of the buses.

The seats immediately behind the driver will always be empty and only 2/3 of the seats on board will be sold, in order to comply with the legislation in force in Portugal. All security measures in place can be found here.

Although most European countries have already lifted capacity restrictions, Portugal maintains this measure, which limits bus line operators.

FlixBus will comply with all local guidelines, however it expects, like other European countries, that the 2/3 capacity limitation in transport will be lifted soon, in order to expand the domestic network now launched.

Through the App or FlixBus platform, passengers will be able to take advantage of all existing technological tools, with emphasis on the flexibility to change/cancel trips up to 15 minutes before departure: real-time bus tracking, save tickets on mobile devices and contact the service of customer support.
