Algarve distinguished in double dose at the 8th edition of the “Archiprix” award

The Algarve was distinguished in a double dose at the 8th edition of the Archiprix Portugal 2020 Award – National Award for Teaching Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urbanism, receiving an award and an honorable mention.

The awards ceremony took place on the 4th of July, in Porto Brandão, Almada.

Pedro Brito won an award for his work “Vila da Fuzeta, Between the sea and the land. Revealing Lagunar Architectures, Paths and Horizons”.

As the author explains, this dissertation “reflects on the territory, urbanism and the architecture of the village, which is both exceptional and at risk. Sensitive and powerful, this place was born and developed in a vital dependence on a deep knowledge of the dynamics and resources existing in the territory, where the best of two environments is intermittently found – sea and land. A border that gains thickness and outlines the lagoon system of the Ria Formosa».

“This work proposes another, multidisciplinary look at how to think and plan the future in a more informed way and in continuity with the foundational values ​​of the place, in a perspective of sustainability and saving resources”, he adds.

Filipa Rabaça, from the Landscape Architecture course at the University of Algarve, won a special mention with her “Contributions to the inventory of Historic Gardens in the Algarve: Faro".

Directed by professor Sónia Talhe Azambuja, the dissertation focused on the theme “Contributions to the inventory of Historic Gardens in the Algarve: Faro".

From the collective of 24 finalists, a winning work was distinguished, two special mentions and eight honorable mentions, which have ensured their presence in the Archiprix Portugal 2020 Yearbook. This annual award recognizes the excellence of teaching and rewards the student/supervisor/educational institution.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the exhibition of finalist works for the Archiprix Portugal 2020 Award was inaugurated, and the Archiprix yearbook was launched, which includes the respective works.
