Temperatures over 30 degrees. This weekend, the 20th and 21st of June, will be very, very hot in the Algarve.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), on Saturday, the maximum temperature forecast for the Algarve is 32 degrees.

O Meteophons it also talks about maximum temperatures around 32, 33 degrees in the Algarve and 33 in the Alentejo. The swell will be Southwest (SW) with 1 meter on the south coast and Northwest (NW) with 1 to 1,5 meters on the west coast.

In places further inland, such as the municipality of Alcoutim, a maximum of 35 degrees is predicted for Saturday (and from…39 on Monday).

Moreover, tomorrow, at 22:44, the Summer Solstice will take place, which marks the beginning of the season.

As for Sunday, the IPMA predicts a maximum of 34 degrees for the Algarve.

The maximum temperatures, on Sunday, will be around 34º degrees in the interior of the Algarve» and «36 degrees in the interior of Alentejo», says Meteofontes.

The swell will be southwest with 1 meter on the south coast and northwest with 1 to 1,5 meters on the west coast.

According to IPMA, despite the heat, the temperature of the sea water will be 18 degrees.

The wind, during the weekend, will be “moderate to strong”, which, together with the heat, increases the risk of fire.

The Civil Protection of Portimão, for example, has already issued a warning to the population, "recommending the adequacy of behavior and attitudes in the face of rural fire danger."

For this reason, it is prohibited «the carrying out of fires, bonfires for recreation or leisure, or for the preparation of food», as well as the «use of burning and combustion equipment intended for lighting or for the preparation of food».

And, even on the beaches, in times of the Covid-19 pandemic, care has to be redoubled to comply with the rules of social distancing. The Infopraia application, now available here for Android and here for iOS, it's a good help.
