O Covid-19 outbreak linked to an illegal party that gathered more than a hundred people in Odiáxere, Lagos, "is contained", assured today, Friday, the regional delegate of Health, at a press conference.

Ana Cristina Guerreiro said that, so far, there are 76 cases linked to this festival, but that today «we have noticed the appearance of a smaller number of new positive cases».

And this was certainly not due to the lack of testing.

“Up to midnight last night, 1222 tests were carried out, focused on groups of contacts in the work and family context”, said the same responsible – yesterday the Câmara de Lagos spoke in 1100 tests already performed – , adding that tests related to the party are still being carried out, «about 250 per day», but reducing the massive testing.

Of the 76 cases already confirmed, with connection to illegal event, 82% of people live in Lagos, 12% in Portimão and 5% elsewhere in the Algarve, namely in Lagoa, Albufeira and Loulé, but also from outside the region. Not all were at the party, and some were infected through family and work relationships, as is the case with children.

Of these people, 31 are between 20 and 29 years old, another 15 are between 30 and 39 years old and there are 14 between 10 and 19 years old. Nine are children under 9 years old.

Ana Cristina Guerreiro added that the tests will only end "when the need to confirm new suspected cases ends."

And how many cases are there expected to be, linked to this illegal party? "I would point to a total number of cases close to 100," said the regional health delegate, admitting that there is a risk of failure, "but in excess."

In terms of accumulated numbers since the beginning of the pandemic, in the Algarve, there are now 482, 34 more than yesterday, according to Ana Cristina Guerreiro. This despite the fact that the DGS points to the existence of 32 new cases and a cumulative total of 480, in your daily newsletter this friday.

Of those infected with the new coronavirus in the region, six are hospitalized, none of them in intensive care. Only two of these interned people are linked to the Lagos outbreak.

In the Algarve region, there are already 330 people recovered. Currently, the active cases amount to 135 in the Algarve.

There are also 345 contacts in isolation at home, under surveillance by the health authorities, mostly linked to the illegal party in Odiáxere.
