Prosecutor's Office is hearing witnesses in the Maddie case

A 43-year-old German is a formal suspect in the abduction and death of the English child who disappeared in 2007 from Praia da Luz

The Public Prosecutor's Office is hearing witnesses in the case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann (Maddie) from Praia da Luz, in 2007, where the English child, then three years old, was on vacation with his family.

After the Judiciary Police have announced yesterday, Wednesday, that it has a formal suspect in Maddie's abduction, a 43-year-old German who is currently in prison for a crime of rape, the MP revealed today, in a statement, that the investigation into the child's disappearance has never ceased to run in the Portimão section of the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of Faro.

"The process is under investigation, with steps in progress, namely, the questioning of witnesses", assured the Public Ministry.

"Within the scope of this inquiry, all facts with criminal relevance that come to the attention of the Public Prosecutor's Office are examined, all relevant steps are taken and, whenever appropriate, mechanisms of international judicial cooperation are triggered", namely with the authorities English and German, added the same entity.

The man suspected of having kidnapped and murdered Maddie in 2007 is a German who resided in Portugal between 1996 and 2007. The man has a criminal record for several crimes, including rape and abuse of minors.

Authorities have elements that point so that you have been in Praia da Luz for 13 years, at the time the English child disappeared.
