There is already a date set for the Medieval Fair of Silves, in 2021: it will be between the 10th and 19th of August. The announcement was made this afternoon by the City Council, which was forced to cancel this year's edition of the event, due to restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The cancellation of "the county's biggest event" was justified "by the importance of safeguarding public health at a time when the rules of social distance, respiratory etiquette and the use of masks gain greater expression in the fight against the pandemic caused by Covid-19", he stresses the local authority, in a press release.
Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, stresses that “the year 2020 will forever be marked in our souls as a year of struggle against an invisible enemy, but also as a year of reflection, reinvention, hope and reaction in the face of adversity. Reflection, because the world has long needed to stop and reflect. Reinvention, because it is urgent to redefine practices, processes and experiences. Hope, because we always have to believe in ourselves, in our capacity to build the future and, with a heart full of courage, react energetically».
The mayor adds that “we are already diligently preparing the 2021 edition of our Medieval Fair, which will take place between the 10th and 19th of August”. It will be “a unique party, where we will celebrate together our great victory!”.
Thus, the Municipality of Silves thanks all those who annually take part in this reference party of the Algarve summer and hopes for everyone in 2021.
The municipality of Silves launched an emotional video about the cancellation, which also presents the new date:
